LAR-15 Jams rifle

Take apart the mag and trim the follower....if you put a ranger plate on the bottom this is a must. Use a dremel or good old sand paper. Just take a bit off of the stabilizers.

Angry,

How much do you remove from the followers? A pic would help if you have time. TIA

Ya, it's about an 8th of an inch. Takes a bit of testing. All mine hold 10.5 rnds and load easily on a closed bolt. BUT all mine have ranger plates on the bottom too...that also changes the internal dimensions. My camera is down so I can't get some pics off.

All of mine hold 10 rounds, they just won't feed the first round (jams going in). If I download to 9 no problems.

Is the 10th rnd super tight in there? If it is, a little trimming may be in order.

This is exactly how mine work.

I have ranger plates on all my mags also. I'll take one apart and start taking a bit of material off the base of the guide portion of the followers. I'll use the belt sander and see how it goes.

OK, I was feeling ambitious tonight and I think I fixed my mags.

I tried the 180B fix (I took a file and filed the front lip of the mag back at an angle) and suddenly my mags feed the first round with 10 loaded.

I'll try them at the range tomorrow but dummy rounds cycle fine at home.

I took the other route. I did what angryeyebrows recommended and worked on all the followers with the belt sander.

They work perfectly now. 10 rounds fit in without any undue pressure and feed without issue on a closed bolt.

When cycling the first round by the charging handle, the top bullet seats without binding (unlike prior to the fix). I've cycled both ways, open and closed bolt...no more issues (from a 10 round mag).

I'll go to the range to verify, but things look good for now. If I encounter any more problems...I'll take out the file. ;)

Most people in the field ' down load ' one or two rounds out of 20 and 30 round mags because of this.
It par for these beasts with this type of system.
Like mentioned before load 9 and your GTG

3 or 4 of us has this same problem all day today at Stormbringer's EESA rifle match. :(With 10 in the mag it won't seat on closed bolt - very frustrating when you're on the clock. This was happening in a Colt, Norincos, and a Stag.

I will be sanding down the followers.

Actually, it was a very easy fix...I strongly recommend it!

With the belt sander, it took less than 5 minutes to do a dozen (12) followers. It took much longer to put the mags back together again. ;)

Ya, its the only thing that really works and very easy to do, takes longer to dechamfer the plastic afterwards

You shouldn't have to "download" you 10 round mag for use in Canada....AND all mags should load on a closed bolt with out removing the 30th round. I know that they can be a little tricky to get seated but they will function fine when the rifle is charged for the first round.

Now Magpul has fixed that with the Pmag. Loads 30 rnds on the closed bolt with very little effort.

Well after filing a bit of the follower and then filing down the front of the mag 4 out of 5 of my mags now fit in the rifle with the bolt closed and strip the first round.

The 5th one still won't feed the first round and jams if I load all ten. Still an improvement.

I own 4 LAR 10-shot mags, and have used them extensively with ZERO problems out of both by Bushmasters :) I load 10 rounds every time, and can easily insert a full clip with the bolt closed. Damb....I feel sorry for you guys, can only load 9 or it's unreliable, that flipp'n blows.

BALLLZ
This is now happening in my SL8. They did work fine but yesterday at the range they would bung up and not fully load the first round on a full 10 rounder from a closed bolt like they used too. The mags follower used to work like a bolt catch so I could reload on a open bolt but now they have gotten weak and the bolt doesnt stay back after last round.
anyone got any idea why ?
ps im using nato ball ammo M118? 62 grain i think
