Hi guys,

I didn't find a thread about these after doing a search.

LAR-15 Magazine Coupler

Has anyone had experience with the LAR-15 magazine couplers? I'm thinking of getting some so I can use my full size mag pouches with my LAR-15 mags. However I've heard complaints that the feed lips can be damaged when the mag is dropped because one mag is pointing straight down (not good). The only way to prevent damaging the feed lips seems to do a tactical reload and put the mag back in the pouch everytime. What do you guys think? Honest opinions please before I impulsively buy some.

They are great. Buy them from Canada Ammo, they have a deal for 2 mags and one coupler for $100.00 plus tax, with free shipping. I guess you could damage the mag lips if you dropped them loaded too many times on concrete or rocks, but.... don't, or be careful, and if you are using them that much, replacing every now and again isn't so bad. A little know how with some basic metal working tools will pop them right back into shape anyway.

I have used mine over a period of 3 months at action/tactical rifle shoots with no issues whatsoever. I would suggest that if you are concerned about feed lip damage, use a mag pul to cover one end and then you will at least have the equivalent of a 10/30 mag.

Then the mag can be safely dropped and the next mag pair can be easliy drawn for use ... and it will have 10 rounds in it!

I will add that the disclaimer that I do sell these things so you can take that factor into account when mulling over my post .... for bad or good.

Dust covers = good protection

Hi guys,

This may sound half-fast, but I've noticed that the clear plastic cap fron an Arm & Hammer anti-perspirant stick fits snugly over the "exposed" end of my LAR-15 magazines. I boiled the cap first, and the oval shape becomes mostly rectangular.

When I mentioned this in an earlier thread, another CGN'er responded by mentioning that Marstar sells proper plastic magazine "dust covers" ... $9.95 for a 4-pack.

It (admittedly) doesn't solve the problem of dropping an empty magazine onto a hard surface (it would no longer be on a just-emptied magazine), but it does keep ammo/lips of the inverted lower magazine clean and protected.

Thanks for the feedback guys.

I thought about the dump pouch idea as well but then the magazine might drop onto another magazine and damage the feed lips.

The magpul to cover one end would work to prevent any damage but would remove having the extra ten for a quick reload. No free lunch I guess.

Question:
Will a coupled magazine work work okay in a FastMag?

I have have two FastMags but I'm wondering if the coupled magazines will be reliable in them?

Thanks again for the feedback.

Raytheon, I don't think that you gain much time by reloading via the reversed mag, if at all. If you intend to drop your mags in on area with a hard surface which might damage them, then use the dump pouch or cover one end as suggested. Losing the option of using the bottom mag is the faster of these two options, you just have to buy more mags.

I have no experience with Fastmags so can't help you there.

Hi Gothmog,

I thought reversing the magazine might be faster for me being left-handed and without an ambi-mag release. As I index the mag release and the magazine at the same time. But I could see having trouble reversing the magazine to insert original bottom mag.

Maybe I'll wait to get the 10/30 LAR-15 magazines or just add the magpuls to the bottom as you suggested.

Thanks again.

I re-read my original post and thought I should clarify.

I have used these couplers over a period of 3 months, droppping my mags on the ground in the course of practice and matches with no feeding issues whatsoever. I do not use a MagPul on the bottom mag at present, I only suggest it for those who are concerned that there might be issues. To date I have had none ...

Nice to know Gothmog.

Unfortunately I usually go to sporting rifle at PCDHFC and they have gravel and rocks instead of dirt and grass. I'm going to try and make your tactical rifle at Thompson for the first time on the 18th. Maybe I'll have some coupled mags by then to test.

Thanks for your feedback.

You can try some of mine at the match if you like.

I'll be at the HACS gun show tomorrow ... I'll pack a pair of mags along with me for you to look at.
