what are the pros and cons of Metal vs Polymer LAR 15 pistol magazines?

Currently there's stock of both at vendors but I'm not sure which way to go...

I think Gmoney has covered the pro's for the polymer mags. The metal ones tend to be more durable. When I had a T97, I used to squeeze the spine of the metal mags in a bench vise to get them to fit.

ASC 10/30 round LAR-15 mags with Magpul USGI Ranger Plates. Way easier to grab out of a mag pouch in a hurry during a match than the 10 round bodied mags.

I find polymer easier to load. Never had operational issues with either. I do find MFT polymer mags have more flexible mag lips. Is that more prone to fail? Not sure.

My favourite combo for LAR15 mags is metal ones with Magpul Ranger plates. Short, compact and still easy to grab out of pouches with the ranger plates.

Hi, I also have those but I find them hard to make them fit to the mags. There’s a small opening almost every where, I don’t want sand in my mags, what can I do, if so what part I have to work on? I ended up wasting one in fde colour, damn me for this, I sand the top of the rubber like too much.

My new ASC are really 9 round mags since they don't work on a closed bolt. Probably gonna sell them.

With Ranger Plates, you have to remove approximately .100" from the legs on the follower. Maybe a bit more or less. This way you'll have room for 10.5 rounds and the full mags will close on a closed bolt.

The problem when you do that is if you put the original plates back on you risk having an 11 round mag. So it's pretty much a one way conversion as you'll want to get rid of the original metal bottom plates.

I'm afraid I'm no help on this. I bought a bunch of CPD LAR mags and they were all a perfect fit.

hi, from the legs on the follower, you mean the plastic? Or you mean the magazine?

Always best to go to a match with more mags than the minimum you need for a long stage, in case one gets stomped on or lost or simply so full of crud you don't want to have to take it apart for cleaning right away.
