LAR15 Mag issues

Hey everyone

I have an RRA LAR-15 mag manufactured by ASC that I have been having feeding issues with. What have your experiences been with these mags? If you had issues how did you solve them?

Help is appreciated, thanks.

What kind of feed issues are you having exactly? There have been a few feeding issues and fixes posted here. Personally I had an issue with 2 of mine - sharp edge on the metal in front of the follower that was catching up the edge of the brass. A small file took care of that and now those 223s chamber like butter!

If yours are anything like mine, theres an issue with the left feed lip being out of spec and catching the groove on the case head. Bought a lot of 10 and all of the ones I've taken out of the plastic (7 now) have this issue.

Load two snap caps and try to push out the round on the left by hand and this will happen:

You can push it out if you put enough force into it but it'll gouge the casing pretty badly, as you can tell by the gouging on that aluminum snap cap (which I've used to test the previous 6 mags).

Aluminum is harder than brass so you can imagine what it's doing to your brass casings.

Just load 1 snap cap, or remove the spring and follower, then file off the protruding bit with a needle file. New mag on the left, filed mag on the right.

Hope this helps.

I just Purchased 3 of them in Hamilton Ont. - Same follower as above.

The rim of the case head was getting hung up (quite firmly) not only on the feed lip as above, but also on the two groves that run vertically down the length of the mag. All three grooves really, but mostly the two at the rear.

When I did a test load, It was near impossible to remove the cartridges by hand, particularly the last round.

I had to file and sand them for about 1/2 hr. each to get anywhere near a smooth feed.

Just look where they are gouging your brass, and sand down that area.

It's a pain.

I have the same problems with mine. These wretched mags mauled the brass before I did any filing/sanding. It took a while to get it all nice and smooth.

While it was really hard to remove the rounds by hand when I got my mags, they would feed just fine in my vz58. However I did some filing of that front lip and the edge where rounds get caught and now I can remove rounds by hand fairly easy
