My friend wants to buy a hand cannon. What's the best choice as far as availability? We're located in SW Ontario. Is it possible to get 500 S&W ? Or better to stick with 454, 44 mag or even 357mag. Don't want to get a gun he can't shoot cause ammo is impossible to get.

Target sports always has 500 s&w for some reason.

I just ordered a raging judge so I could join the BFR club and I'm giddy as a school girl waiting for it... Already have a box or 454 cas 2 boxes of 45lc and 2 boxes of the PDX1 410 shells from my super secret stash. The thought of a 3 caliber gun just makes me warm and fuzzy on the inside... Especially when one of the calibers is as flexible as a shotgun

My first thought was the same .460 already suggested. One cautionary though! I've read that shooting 45 Colt will leave a lead deposit which MUST be cleaned out before using the jacketed bullets from either the 454 or .460. Read: Cartridges of the World.

Another choice would be the BFR in 45/70. Factory ammo anywhere, pussy cat reloads possible, and blackpowder option in an all stainless gun.
Truly is cannon like to fire though...

Where did you buy from.. If it was wolverine can you pm me I was having some difficulties and would just like to see if you ran into the same problems...

O and me too... That cardboard box doesn't stand a chance when it gets here

go with a 45-70 bfr from magnum research , you can make load to achieve 454 or 460 velocity , or loaded up to greater velocity than the 500 s&w ,
Ammo are easy to find , the revolver are about the same weight of a 500 s&w or raging bull . I have one with 7.5 inch barrel and hell of a gun .
shooting at 100 yards is easy with that thing . the grip are crap , but with a wooden or rubber one are great , is just to not take grip with checkering or something non slip surface , because your's hand will hurt a lots , first 10 shots with this 5 shots my hand feel the pain , skin and flesh are red , and my thumb take all the recoil because the revolver don't slip and absorb the recoil , after that i shot many time with leather gloves and is a pleasure , don't take shooting glove because my rip in palm ..... leather glove without finger is best , and change the grips sooner you can to much enjoye shooting with that beast

I have a Colt .357 and a S&W .44 mag at the moment and I am very happy with both, but eventually Id like to go with a .460 or .500 aswell.
