Large capacity pistol safe

Pistol safe

Check the Pendleton safes on Gunblast site they are round and lit inside with leds. The shelves are round so you can move them to see each gun, one was set up for just pistols and I think it held 30 to 40 on a shelf---Ron.

Is anybody else frustrated with the lack of specially designed large capacity pistol safes?

Does anybody know of a large capacity safe that can hold lots of pistols? Between 15-20 would be good.

Large capacity (or high capacity) pistol safes are prohibited. Maximum legal limit is 10 pistols (includes revolvers). The proposed legislation set the capacity limit to one pistol per safe but everyone knew that was unworkable since regular capacity safes would have to be blocked to bring the capacity down to one. The committee report changed the limit to ten handguns since this was considered the maximum regular capacity for a handgun safe. But once the legislation was put into force it was soon discovered that gun owners were using rifle safes to store handguns. And rifle safes were non-restricted. There was no capacity limit placed on rifle safes. It was assumed that rifles safe capacity would be self limited due to the greater size of the rifle/shotguns.

The Honeywell 2743D safe at Costco ($339 in Calgary, fantastic value) only comes with 2 or 3 shelves, but it has built in rails running almost full height that would let you add as many extra shelves as you can fit just by adding clips and cutting more shelf pieces.

Hey Mark,
Is that a current price? I don't suppose you have a stock number?
Thanks

I bought a Honeywell 2743D safe at Costco last summer. Very happy with it and, amazingly enough, I still have the receipt. The relevant line is:

244403 Gun safe $359.99

Presumably 244403 is the stock number.

I bought two of the costco safes about 2 years ago, the both of them were cheaper than the same ones at other stores. The one I converted over to nothing but pistols. I stripped out the carpet and the rifle holders and welded in shelf rails on both sides, made up some wood shelves and covered them with carpet and installed 6 of them to hold the various handguns. On each shelf I made some holders to hold the pistol at the muzzle similar to a previous poster. Now if I want to move the shelf up or down for what ever reason there is no problem and it can hold a lot of fun stuff.

Hey guys
Grande Prairie Costco has 4 of the Honeywell 2743D safes left @299.97 ea. I picked one up yesterday. Great safe for the money.

Pics? I'd love to see that.

It was current in the Calgary NE location as of a couple of weeks ago. No idea on the stock number, but if you phone the customer service desk they can find it for you. You can't find it online, it is an in-store item only, unless they have recently changed that.

I am waiting to buy another one as soon as I pay out my taxes and a couple other bills, I am way overloaded past the capacity of the first one.

Better pick it up asap Mark I was told that they will not be carrying the Honeywell one when they are sold out.

The Costco here said they are going to a Sentry safe. I suppose that may not be the case for all stores but I do find the one up here hit and miss. Seems like there is no logic sometimes.......

I have a brother that is an assistant manager at a costco and he says that virtually every year when they stock safes they are different. It is what ever they get at a deal. Most of them are not true safes, not burglar proof or fire proof but enough to keep the authorities off your back and to keep the honest people honest. You have to get into the 1500.00 and up safes to be true safes with a guarantee but for 300.00 the costco safes are all one needs.

Great pictures, I love them, keep them flowing.

I'm tempted to get one of these... http ://www.bedgunsafe.com/

Talked to the guy that owns the company (he's who answers the emails) John Adrain. Really good guy. Even offered to drive the safe from washington to alberta for me in his truck... Lots of $$ though. If I didn't live in the middle of nowhere I might get one shipped to me.

I went to the Costco in Woodbridge and they had three.

They do not have the quality of the one I bought 4 years ago, but you can't argue with the price. And while they are not as good...they are good enough.
