I started clay shooting a couple years ago. I bought an A400 to use as a duel purpose gun for hunting and clay busting. It never really fit me right so I ended up putting an adjustable butt plate on it to increase the drop by about an inch and increased the LOP by about 3/4" It now fits me well enough that it's not an issue. The gun however is very light and doesn't swing the best so now I'm looking for an O/U.
What brands/models of shotguns are best suited to larger frame shooters? The only shotgun I have tried so far that fits me well in its stock set up is a Browning XS special with the drop in the sock running parallel to the line of sight of the barrel.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I am a big guy and always found the Beretta's just don't have the feel or fit I like and need. I can generally take a Browning right off the shelf and shoot it with little to no adjustment. I also find the Browning barrels and design have a bit more forward weight making for a much more fluid swing. Short of going full custom or very high end I think a Browning is the best bang for the buck in an off the shelf production o/u.

I'm 6' 6" tall and 300 pounds so I probably qualify to comment on this thread. :d You don't really say what your fit issue is. I have problems finding shotguns with a long enough LOP. Not too much issue with drop at comb or heel. I shoot trap with a Remington 3200 that has an adjustable butt plate and I had to put a higher rib on it to get the sight picture where I wanted it. I also shoot an ancient Model 31 that is bone stock and fits me perfectly. As for new O/U's, I have shot a 725 without an adjustable comb and it shot really flat. 50/50 or less. Shot a Churchill 206 O/U that fit really well but seemed a bit light. Tristar unsingle shot well for me too. Old Citoris and Lightnings work well for me. You're going to have to try a few guns to be sure but I think you will find the greater the drop at heel the better the gun will fit.

A good swinging shotgun has a great "momentum of inertia". It is what makes a shotgun lively. It is weight between the hands and not at the ends. You need to see a stock fitter such as Chris Batha in the US for a stock measurement. Or if they show up this year, the Beretta factory team of the manager of the Premium gunshop and the International shooter liaison and Italian bunker trap champion Aldo Lovazzani. Aldo will measure you for a stock no charge if you purchase a DT11 or 692. Both provide the weight in between the hands like a Perazzi or Renato Gamba, for less. The shotgun will shoot where you look. At least in Europe, they will not sell someone a shotgun that does not fit except for the large box stores. Here, it is does it feel right? Ok buy it. Meanwhile, it van beat you up and not shoot where you look.

I can chime in here at 6'5" 290 I have tried many ,o/u, browning xt with adj. comb worked pretty good and had a citori 4 barrel skeet set again fit not bad.Older franchi good upland gun,Now shoot a Beretta 682 e adjustable comb and add a rib it is my go to doubles gun and shoot respectable singles as well if I need it. Use a Ljutic mono for most singles and handicap it fits great..had a browning Cynergy for 1 month 3 weeks too long IMHO
