Iceman, what exactly does moose taste like?
Also, are black moose that common?
BTW, it's an amazing trophy.

Hard to explain how moose taste like...When shot early in the rut, they are still fat, and delicious. By far my favorite, compared to elk and deer.

Many larger moose "appear" black, but in fact, they are light to dark brown. This mature bull was dark brown. It was shot in the Peace River country in Northern Alberta. I have shot a bigger one...and it only had on antler. The other one was broken off at the base during a fight. It was not a bullet break. I would have liked to see the one that won the fight!!!

Hey TMac...you're right. The real work starts when one of them go down!...

My last {first} Moose had the living daylights beat out of him, his ribs were all bruised and purple and was missing part of his antlers. Probably why he was sulking and never noticed us sneak up to 30 yards :p

Where in the Peace Country do you hunt Iceman? I spend most of my time in 356, 357 and 358

I know what you mean TMac. We have shot a few with battle bruises. Nothing like calling them big swamp donkees during the rut!

These bulls were shot in 525 (Sulphur Lake area) in the mid 90's. We now go in 520/544. Our hunting camp borders these two zones. Last year, we shot six bulls in there.

Iceman
sweet. Here in Texas, we would have to glue 10 mulies together, tape about 12 whitetails to them, and staple a couple of hogs in there, to get a critter that big.

How long does it take to eat an animal that big?

Had to put up the bows and get out the thunderstick.

Ive been out playing with my bows too much. I decided to get out a rifle last night and go looking for hogs. It was nice getting to set up and watch the critters, getting to shoot from 100+ yards. Here is what the old 300 wby found. Its two sows. Each at about 150lbs. Not real big, but the perfect eating size. I have a campout next weekend and I think these two sows will just about feed everyone sat. night.

Seriously though, did you shoot it or did she?
Or was she part of the package when you nailed it?
Y'know, shoot this buck and get a free babe.
