Ontario bear
Got my first black bear last week! I've had a ton of pictures on my trail cams of bears this year, in fact more bears than deer.

So I decided instead of baiting I'd just put some stale bread out at my deer stand & get one from there.
I got out a few times but didn't see anything. I had to leave for 3 weeks on Saturday the 19th, so on the morning of Friday the 18th I went out to the stand. I forgot to bring any bread or buns but figured it would be ok.
I got into the stand at about 6:50, and enjoyed the morning. At 9:07, I saw a black blur moving pretty quickly through the woods, about 60 metres away through thick bush. It was hard to see, but I knew it was a bear. It looked like she was going to go straight past me, as she was on a path that was going from left to right in front of me. All of a sudden she changed directions & headed straight towards me. I brought up my rifle (my Lee Enfield No4 mk1) waited until she cleared the last trees and fired when she was only about 30 metres away. The shot felt good and she dashed off to my left. Less than 15 seconds later I heard her "death moan," and then nothing. I waited about 15 minutes, then climbed down. I went to where she was when I shot and looked for blood but didn't see any. so I followed her direction of travel, and found her less than 50 metres from where she was hit, lying on her back. I didn't even find any blood till I got to her and backtracked. Weird, since she was hit good! The old .303 british did the trick, it blew through both lungs and left a 2" exit wound. You can see in the third pic that there was lots of blood and chunks of lung on the ground where she was laying, so I almost think she might have tried to climb a tree & fallen.
She turned out to be an old Sow, her teeth are right worn down. All the bears on my cameras have been with cubs, but she was on her own. I thought she must have been a young bear when I saw her at first, she only weighed about 200lbs when field dressed. A pretty animal, and since she's my first bear she'll make a nice rug! Of course since I had to leave on Saturday, I spent the rest of the day skinning & butchering her. Good times!
Here she is;
The view walking up;
And the blood that looks like it sprayed out of the hole in her side;
Cheers!
