i bought an Ishapore at the Fredericton Gun Show that has a large P stamped on the right side of the butt socket and on top of the barrel.
What does it mean?

The information I got from the Lee Enfield rifle website says the "P" on the barrel means a replacement barrel.

The only thing I can find for the "P" on the butt socket is a "Compressed butt socket".

Here is the reference I used: Enfield markings.

It does appear to have a new barrel and the P on the butt socket is just above .410 over RFI over 1942. It appears to have done some service as a .410 before getting the new barrel. There is nothing on the other side of the butt socket where the name & date are usually found. The actual name Ishapore doesn't appear anywhere although it definitely is one.

So she is an ex-.410 ? Interesting, I have never seen one come back from becoming a .410.

I would be interested in seeing any pictures you have of her.

I had another No.1 Mk III* a few years ago, British made before 1915, re-barreled to .410 at Ishapore after WWI, then in the early 40's, re-barreled again to .303 with an Ishapore stock as well. When my gun show table was almost empty, I took it (and a few others) in and put a very high price on it so nobody would buy it. Someone did, right away. If that happens now, I put "for display only" on them.
I Haven't taken photos yet but I will today. The problem is, I can't seem to get them posted. I can send a photo by personal e-mail though.
