I have seen a Ruger M77V that was modded to accept only the issue M-14 mag.
Also once saw a JC that had been modded to accept a BREN mag. It also had a bipod, 1-piece stock and a few other goodies. ONE only built, in Vancouver, about 1965. I believe tha mag also had had extensive mods, but don't know.
When I was at the Pattern Room (1976), they had an operational Charlton with a BREN mag. I REALLY wanted to take that one home (along with Maxim s/n 1 still in .450G-G calibre) but they wouldn't fit into my camera bag. Complete bummer! Oh well, I did get to play with the 4.85mm rifle, s/n 4, for a while. This was 3 or 4 days after the first photgraph had been released. Lovely toy!
Reason that there weren't heaps of loooooong mags made for the LE was that they were unwieldy in the extreme and it got worse as the capacity grew larger. Much better to have a 10-rounder and reload from chargers. Much FASTER, too. You load with a single charger, remove it and load the second charger, slap the bolt forward and the second charger goes winging off across the landscape. You don't even have to remove the second charger.
Jerry got all caught up in the extended-mag idea but that didn't pan out very well, either. There is another thread on this 'on the go' right at this time, so take a peek there.
