Today i was talking to a friend about the 9.3x62 Mauser rifle i had just purchased and we were jokingly talking about it being a great coyote gun.
I'm yet to shoot a coyote myself and 9.3 is far from legal where I am, but i know hunters often shoot coyotes will out deer or moose hunting.
So now im curious, what is the largest caliber you've shot a coyote with and what were the results?

.300 win mag, 180 gr accubond. Heard it hit him, saw him drop. Walked out maybe 150 yards and he was gone. Lost two that I hit with the .243/70 gr hollow points. I have never lost one with the .223/50 gr vmax.

It depends how you figure big. I got 3 one day with a Kimber .338 win mag and 215 grain Sierras. Basically crushed them.

Or to figure it another way, I lost track of how many we've shot with Savage smokeless muzzleloaders and 300 grain Hornady .45 cal SSTs. Those are pretty decisive as well. I also shot jackal with the .375 H&H. Frontal chest with a 270 grain TSX. Crocodile food after that.

Two Jackals (smaller than a coyote) with the 404 Jeffery (400gr Swift A-Frame).
Worked fine.

(To answer the question, biggest caliber on coyotes was 7x57 (139 gr Hornady Sprire-Points left loonie-sized exit holes) and .270 Win (130 gr TSX) - three for three had brutal (saucer-sized) exit holes.)

Just ordered a box of 200gr .375win bullets for my new to me .375 h&h. I can't wait for a chance to get out for them. I should be able to do 3100-3200 fps with those. Good for farther than I've ever shot one at.
