LaRue Stealth: Least Reliable AR-15 Yet Nutn

Chrissakes. 45 minutes?

Coles Notes:
  • Nutn had gun.
  • No cycle.
  • Sent to Larue.
  • Got back.
  • Gun still hates snow/nutn.

Moral of the Story: Don't let Nutnfancy shoot your guns?

Nutn sent it back twice with the same problem.

it's just harsh to believe that Larue failed to notice the problem on the second time and send it back.

whats more absurd is if your gunna pay near KAC territory for a rifle and have it screw up in the snow, which wasnt the problem

Did any of you actually watched the video?

That's what I thought.

The gas port on his barrel was too small. He sent the rifle TWICE to Larue and they didn't do #### and sent him back his rifle with nothing fixed. He fixed it himself by drilling the gas port.

Are Larues the least reliable rifles? No, but even with the best manufacturers you can get defects and things that slip out of QC.

I don't get the nutnfancy hate? Sure he's got a quirky personality but the guy seems to be passionate about guns and gets hands on experience with more rifles than most people could ever dream of. He puts a ton of lead down range and speaks his mind. What's the problem? At least you can fast forward a long video to relevant parts as opposed to watching a 2 minute 'commercial' for a gun that basically lists it's catalogue stats.

Has anyone ever sat through an entire video made by that guy?

used to do it when I had time on my hands.
what was worse was it was back in his "this thing isn't at light as a glock" days or the constant "ounces equal pounds" he had to spew every couple minutes.

they are pretty good videos once you get down to it though. just filled with to much extra crap

Other than the fact that it's torture to hear gun reviews from someone whose shoes would be MIA if nobody had invented velcro?

I can't imagine anyone putting stock in any opinions he has on anything but "how to drag out a nasal, grating monologue without adding substance".

That's interesting as pretty much every piece of info I've read on LaRue's rifles indicate that they are very accurate and very reliable piece of kit.

I don't think anyone has denied that they're very accurate. Getting the gas hole size wrong, okay, maybe they were new to rifles back then as it's a pretty old rifle. But the rifle was sent back twice, and it was either missed or ignored during inspection. I'm less than impressed, it's not something particularly defendable. There's a lot of pride people put in the guns they own, makes me wonder if other people are having problems but pretending they don't.

My point was that it's silly to worship a company name, worse still to put on blinders if problems crop up. My HK USP9 gave me a ton of problems, for example. The decock would get stuck in place at times and wouldn't function and it it would give me pretty consistent FTEs every few hundred rounds if I didn't clean out the extractor. I WANTED to like it, it was ridiculously accurate, had sweet ergonomics and a lot of class. But it also had problems. Are you going to accuse me of shooting the pistol "wrong?"

Also - better tell the folks ordering CADEX rifles that their new rifles are manufactured by a chassis builder, not a complete rifle manufacturer and that they certainly shouldn't expect the same accuracy and repedability

Maybe they will maybe they won't. I'm not going to just assume either way. That was my point.

As I recall from a discussion on another site it was identified that Nutn incorrectly installed the pri flip up on this rifle which lead to many (most?) of his problems with this gun

Link to discussion? Because Nutn states that he installed multiple gas blocks, and the rifle had the same issue each time. I'm not sure how installing a gas black makes the gas hole undersized.

How was this identified?

If any of you bothered to actually watch his video, he sent his rifle to Larue the first time completely stock. When it came back and nothing was fixed he then started to troubleshoot the upper. Installing new parts, etc. Drilling the gas port was a last resort and that's what he ended up doing after Larue sent his rifle back for a second time without fixing the issue. Weirdly enough, that fixed his problem, which was an undergassed rifle. If I have a problem with a firearm that I own and the manufacturer couldn't fix it after sending it to them two times, I would've done the exact same thing NutnFancy did: Fix it my damn self.

You guys should actually watch his video instead of assuming bull*** and sucking a big company name's d*** like everybody over at arfcom. The topics I saw there about his video was pretty much what I expected would happen on those forums: Everybody sucking Larue's d*** without even watching NutnFancy's video and then blaming ammo or the operator because of the name. Really? You don't want to watch his 45 minute video? Then keep your fingers off of your keyboard, it's as simple as that. I don't watch NutnFancy's reviews because I also can't be arsed for how long they are but I watched his video about the Larue upper after every stupid post I kept seeing online and Larue didn't fix his upper, twice. It just so happened that his gas port was a little bit too small and he fixed it after trying everything else. He even kept all the paperwork from the day he bought the upper to both times he sent the upper at Larue to get it looked at with no success. He's been doing a lot of shooting since he fixed the upper and says in the video that he loves it because it is now 100% reliable and very accurate. I don't want to defend NutnFancy but I have to say that he's very thorough and unbiased in his reviews. Even though it's a OMFG LARUE!!!111oeonnoen upper he waited years before uploading that video and gave Larue the chance to fix his upper. Twice. They didn't.

S**t can happen for everybody, even for Larue. I've had my share of overgassed or undergassed barrels and it can happen. What ticked him off the most in his video is the fact that he sent it back to Larue twice with no results. Any number of things could have been the cause of his gas port being too small but we'll never know. It was too small, he opened it up and fixed it after Larue had opportunities to look at it, end of story.

I don't get the nutnfancy hate?

same reason sports fans get into fights with fans of other teams. fan boys hate it when someone talks bad about their favorite brand. Even in this video he clearly states the Larue upper, when working, is very accurate and that it's been functioning 100% since he fixed the gas port hole. He never actually bashed the brand either But you know who cares about evidence and a clear example of a manufacturer's failure right? burn the witch!

as for nutnfancy followers being new and low post count. meh, as if their time on CGN is any indication of how long they've been shooting or how much information they know, talk about elitism. FFS i've seen some old people on here with high post counts parroting absolute nonsense about firearms based on old myths.

I don't like Larue stuff much - I think even their optic mounts are way overrated - and I think nutnfancy is a dumb ####.

Post counts aside, Armedsask is right...he only sounds like he knows what he's talking about to people who don't know what they're talking about.

60,000 views in 5 days. I'm not a tinfoil hatter but seems like a genius way to get huge views and more royalties.
Pick one of the biggest names in the AR game and screw up the gas port for a video. Where are all the other 'unreliable LaRue Stealth' videos?
Larue fanboys are going bananas! - He even thanks them for the publicity in his comments.
