I would agree with rodregier said about this for a maximum of 500 yards. I use a Leica 1600, but that is a bit of overkill for what you require. Having said that, the Leica ranges wonderfully well.general rule of thumb is to get a unit rated for twice the distance you want to measure.
Model number is 200L and max range is 1750m. I think it will range that far since I can get 1500m on a single tree out at "The Farm" I ranged 1200m to a tree line hand held. Great value for the money.

You can get the Leica 1600B at Wholesale Sports. I had to get my mount from the US.
We go to Plentywood and pickup our online shopping once a month or so. You might be able to find a mount on amazon.ca, maybe??
