Do these work for finding the approximate range for gophers? Would they pick up something that small?

I am considering buying one for strictlyy gopher shooting.

I went to the local gun shop and the dealer said it was a good question as he had never tried one on gophers.

Yes the new generation rangfinders work excellent on small targets at long range... Busnell Elite 1500, Leupold RX, Nikon and Leica to name a few... you have to spend some money to get the latest Technology.

Don and I bought a bushnell sport. it works great. Don made a shot 173 yds with his brno #2. The rangefinder is really only used up to 200 yds so this cheap one ($200 ) at wholesale works for us. Now we are only shooting rimfire . If your shooting centre fire more ranging power may be required along with that goes $$$$$$$$.thanks -----Cowboy

Way back when.... I was a bushnell rep a friend of a friend want the new at that time 1000 yard yardage pro, so I get this guy one and about two weeks later he comes up to me in the morning at a sporting clays shoot and says" This POS won't range a gopher at 1000 yards I want my money back" Funnily enough he said it front of a pile of guys who just turned on him for being an unrealistic idiot. whoo wee I am glad they were there in support, cause I was laughing so hard, almost peed my pants. But the new product is much more accurate, but I still doubt that they can range a gopher today at 1000 yards

fast steel

Thats awesome. You should have said real gopher shooters dont need laser range finders for hitting gophers at 1000 yards. LOL:eek: :D

Heres another one "Real gopher shooters dont yell car"

if they won't range off the pest they will usually range off the mound...

LRF's are completely dependant on the reflectivity of the target. You are not ranging the pasture rat, your reading the surrounding area.

My Leica LRF 800 has a 4x lens. I can range an object the size of a car to perhaps 800 yards. It is not the ability of the range finder; the limiting factor is the ability of the hunter to spot the object with a 4x lens as well as a pair of steady hands.

I doubt very much if any one can see a gopher with a 4x lens beyond 500 yards. Even with an 8X lens it is pushing the limits. A deer is doable, however, a gopher is much smaller than a deer.

Go to the countryside and try it out on a cow and check out your ability to range.

Cheers!

Why would you want to range something that small at that range anyway?

if you're more than 250yds out, you're probably not going to hit the bugger anyway.

Welcome to the Internet pissing contest. :D

250 yards huh? I guess that I should add I have a 22-250 which will easily reach that distance, and with a 9 power scope ;I should be able to at least come close enough to be able to make adjustments regarding holdover and windage.

I wouldn't be fooling around witha 22 rimfire at this range. Too much ammo wasted.

Anyone who cannot hit a groundhog at 250yds should be looking for better equipment. If he already has good equipment he should be looking at alternative hobbies.

Groundhog is three times the size of gopher!
