Laser Range Finders

I love my Leica Geovids. I have no problem ranging a round bale at 1300 yds. Glass is excellent, especially at dawn/dusk. I like them better then the Swaro's. They ride around in the truck with me all the time. IMO worth the $, YMMV

ETA: Just noticed, HOLY THREAD RESURRECTION BATMAN :D

I have a cheap one, which only claims to be good for 440 yards. I have found it enough use to not regret the $100 I spent on it. I don't doubt that some more money would get some more performance and that would be some use, but I don't expect my hunting to suffer much from not being able to accurately measure distances at which I can't even see game, let alone shoot it. And optical quality is nice, but I wouldn't take money away from the binocular budget to get better optical quality in the range finder.

Spend as much as you have to, or as much as you can afford, whichever is less.

What range finder is for $100 TheTooner?

Brunton Echo 440 is normally about $200 at C.Tire but sometimes goes on sale for $99.99. Mine measures the 300 yard firing point at my range as 302 yards. Beyond that, I can only compare it to me pacing out the distance, so I wouldn't want to argue with it. And I don't have to. Between the guns I own and the amount of practise I get in, I shouldn't be shooting at game beyond that anyway.

I just acquired a Bushnell 800 in a swap with another member.
It's my first laser rangefinder but it seems to work good.
So far it's told me I can still guess 100 an 200 yds within a few...and now that I don't look so good it's a good thing I have one for anything farther...

Ive used a couple high end bushnells and ranged the same cliff behind my work with them. Bushnells told me it was 1300 and change. Then I bought a crf 1200 and ranged it and it was 880. That's a HUGE difference. Hell, I was suprised that the bushnells went that far. I always knew that it wasent over 1000yards anyway. +1 for the leica

I'm very surprised no one has mentioned the new Zeiss model?
I went down this road ~ a month ago looking at what I felt where the three top models - Leica, Swarovski and Zeiss.
Originally, I had it in my mind that I was going to buy the Swaro but after exhausting my research and talking with Camara Land I ended up purchasing the Zeiss.
My first impressions - very impressive:D
I needed a range finder that could range a coyote quickly and accuarely in bright snow conditions out to 600 yards - my Zeiss does this and more.
To my door for under $700 taxes paid, ~ $200 less than the Swaro;)

I finally had to break down and buy a 8x42 Geovid to go with my Leica 900 and 1200. None of them are match for a Swarovski, judged soley as a rangefinder. Having said that, the 2 in one appeal proved irresistable.

A friend bought the Zeiss, ran it again a mutual friend's Swarovski on one hunting trip, sold it and bought a Swaro.

I can range pretty darn far with my LRF1200. I ranged a coyote a while ago at 942 yards with the ground covered in snow and the sun shining brightly. That's impressive IMO. I chose to get the LRF over the newer CRF for two reasons:
1. The CRF has had some quality control issues, and the warranty service sucks. I haven't heard of any problems with the LRF.
2. I prefer the flat shape of the LRF. I can lay it on my pack (or a sandbag), which makes it dead steady, and enables me to range much farther than if I were holding it by hand.
