laser ranger with vector capability?

Some of the Newcon Optik range finders have compasses built in.

I recommend reading reviews on them first.. they're generally not very highly regarded.

Probably not, I need to be able to determine the distance between two moving objects, me not being one of them.

You know, in the old days, people used a needle, an average size tree leaf (maple leaf will do).
You lay the leaf on the ground, pour some water on the leaf & put the needle on the water. It will point true North.
