Laser Sights?

When I shot the Springer XD in 45GAP its owner had a laser sight. I noticed the laser jumping all over the place. When I see them used on TV (movies) the dot is steady but when I use the CTC laser grip with my S&W M37 it looks like Barney Fife aiming a handgun. I find I actually shoot better without the laser sight. Does anyone really use these things? Regards, Richard :D

I find that laser sights really show just how shaky you shoot sometimes  I think it is this distraction that makes me shoot worse with a laser. If I would have a pistol in the nightstand, it would wear an M6X only for illumination and laser "threat" purposes ("Oh sh**, he has a gun with a laser pointed at me !!! ) - not to help aim (that is what the tritium sights should be for :D ).

Also, movies and reality are rarely in sync

gorky, I understand the fear factor but I doubt it would happen with the red dot bouncing all over the perp's body. In other words, "My God is he going to shoot me in the chest, balls, or hand :?:" Regards, Richard :D

   Fair enough :D

I can hold the dot relatively straightforward until I pull the trigger - then it starts bouncing. This is one reason I think the lasers are good training tools

I think that if you held the dot on a perp, it would be a deterrent. Simply put:

Laser = gun = bullets that could hurt/kill me

God knows that if someone was holding a gun on me and I saw a laser dot bouncing across my chest, my first thought would not be "HAHA, he can't hold his aim". Instead, I would be thinking "Ah crap, even if he misses with the first shot, he has many more where that one came from". Even terrible shots can hit the target by accident (some people claim that is how many officers qualify  ). Point is, gun = bullets and even if that dot is bouncing, it would still be enough to scare the hell out of alot of people.

I personally wouldn't use one because it would destroy my confidence.
I have read about their use in CCW too, and sometimes the perp will apparently give up as soon as he sees the dot, but others will look for the source and then shoot at the source...I'd rather not present a target...
