I have seen a few green units around, starting at 20mW and some larger ones running 60mW.. They have a up to a +20km range.

If all you're looking for is a cheap laser to play around with dealextreme.com has some. You won't get any kind of respectable mounts for them or anything but they won't break the bank. They have similar quality optics as well.
They are in Hong Kong but ship with the equivalent of Expresspost (and it is trackable through Canada Post as well) and it takes about 2 weeks to get your stuff if they have it in stock.

Very good question I never used one or seen one used personally, wanting to get one to try out hence the post. I am kind of wondering that myself now.

Not being an expert in them myself, but I read somewhere that the green lazers are far more superior over the red lazers as they are easier to see in daylight as well as no light
CQB requires near zero use of sights to make hits. Lasers in the form of the MIL units were not designed or intended as CQB sights, they're role is target designation. If you can't make hits in a CQB environment with the current selection of CCO's you need more training. A laser is a useless piece of crap that many feel adds to the "look cool" factor on their rifle. Personally, anyone outside of Mil and some LE with a laser on their rifle tells me they have no clue what is or isn't useful on a rifle. A light is the single most important tool you could attach to your rifle. You can't identify targets with a laser and don't forget that lasers point both ways, just like tracers.

Ah ok, thouse are out of my price range and no use to me as they are IR laser units as far as I know and I dont have night vision.
Edit, I'd pay more then US costs for a CVL like unit but for almost double the cost of my rifle for a invisible laser I doubt I'd fork over the cash, he could send me a box without a working laser and I wouldn't know the difference*

*No offense is made to TSE, who I am not implying they'd cheat anyone out of money, I am sure they are good to go completely, before someone takes offense to my comment. Just without a NV system a IR laser does little for anyone other then possibly make you blind.

AN/PEQ-2 Laser Unit, with a narrow beam IR laser and a wide Beam Illuminater.
The CVL also know as the AN/PEQ-5 with a visible red laser. Originally part of the SOPMOD kit for the M4 Carbines I believe.
And there are many more on the market.

You're right, a light does indicate your location as well. The benefits of identifying your target far outweigh the "potential" gain of a visible laser and offset the negative aspect of disclosing your location. You can't shoot what you can't see.
