I have always been a fan of Lasers..., I decided to get one. I didn;t think for one instant that it would be difficult to see in the daylight - slipped my mind,

so keep this in perspective - either get a very $$ laser you can see in the day or you'll end up with one more suited for night/dusk/overcast/low light..

People say why get a Laser? why not get a red dot? you are just going to end up chasing the laser... - ok - I got both.

I finally got time to mount my rail on the black special and subsequently the laser. today I mounted the switch with some velcro.

(I have pics - will post them later)

The question begs are Lasers legal? Can I shoot a gopher with a laser sight?

PS. a laser on a shotgun is a really good idea from what I can tell, especially if your reason for the shotgun is primarily defense.

Yes lasers are legal. I still have to ask... WHY??????
If you can't hit a target in a defensive situation with a shotgun without a laser sight, then you either A. are firing too far away or B, shouldn't own firearms. Good luck finding that small little dot under stress, oh wait the batteries just died!

Just for yucks, go out and set up 3 or 4 IPSC targets. Shoot them with the laser.......... time yourself, and count your hits.

Now shoot them from the iron sight........ time yourself, and count your hits.

The answer becomes apparent really quickly.

Lasers are for Hollywood!

hehe , if you want speed - try an Eotech, Yes the laser is for Hollywood which happens to provide a great deal of entertainment, both I might add.

A laser on any rifle puts the bead on the target... you can then hold the rifle at your hip like Rambo, I often wondered how rambo did it - now I know he had a laser ;)

I suppose if you need a laser to hit a target at 15 yards with a shot gun you have other problems :),

I must add that looking thru the iron sites with a laser above the post is a pretty nice thing, also when you mount a red dot that is also sighted it goes where ever the laser is - very cool, but just science.

I have the laser in case I get sharks, until then I will mount it on my sig and snipe gophers complete with tactical radio comm, I am certain they work for Al Queda.

I read the hunting regs and they specify no "lights" for big game.

I still don't understand why you want a laser. When we go gopher hunting on a bright sunny day, you think you're gonna see that thing on a gopher? have you held a laser to a wall at 100 yardS? have you seen how shaky it gets, and how big the dot gets?

Buy yourself an eotech 552 for your sig, and enjoy life. until then, you can continue to be outshot by me with my cz858 :D

Here gopher, gopher, gopher....

Supposedly an untouched photo of a 120mw average, 250mw peak laser. I just like gun!

LMAO!

Canfire's got it right :)

for the pundits... read up on some laser hacks, I could very easily boost the power of my laser, the trick is howver to go Green, a green laser is much more powerful visibly than a red laser of equal power,

I plan on offering the gopher population corrective eye surgery prior to a quick exit off this planet :D

for self defense purposes a laser is a great idea, including on shotguns. It doesn't require you to obtain any kind of sight picture, you put the dot on, and pull the trigger. For gopher hunting? well I can't say I would think it would work too well, due to washout, but hey give it a try.

x2. this makes the hand gun a better choice for home defense, it eliminates one of the problems of handgun vs. shot gun for home defense, the aiming while half asleep and in the dark problem...

Seeing as how in a home defense situation your adrenalin will be pumping and your sense "heightened" I wouldn't be too worried about the half asleep problem. Again, most gun fights happen at close range and most involved in a shoot don't ever recall using sights, so why complicate the task and have to look for a dot??? reflex shooting seems so much easier, not to mention Echo4Lima's post regarding the use of a laser as a "two way pointer". I would presume you are going to identify your target before engaging. I would use a gun mounted light for both illumination/identification and an aid to aiming.

well lets see, a laser would allow you to aim without having to acquire your sights, and while reflex shooting is all wonderful in movies, in real life, stress filled situations is a poor thing to rely on. heart pumping, nerves jumping, muscles flexing, all these things are going to counter any "reflex" oriented action. as well reflex shooting is not aimed fire, and in a home defense situation I would most certainly want to use aimed fire as much as possible. which means either acquiring my sights, or using a laser. Using a laser means I can also stick a gun around a corner if I know the badguy is down the hall, and not have to see anything other than the dot on the BG. Hence the reasons cops use lasers for breaching teams and ERT/SWAT stuff. Weapon lights are also useful but they can also cause problems for the person using them.
Now the idea of a "two way pointer" most certainly in a military application where you can now target large munitions onto where the laser is coming from, it can be a bad idea to use them. But in a dynamic self defense scenario, by the time the BG has seen and recognized the laser (which will appear as dot, not a line in the air, he should be down for the count. Unless of course your house has so much dust in it that you can see a long line in the air when you project it. as well, if they can see the dot on the end of your gun, from whence the laser projects, and they then shoot at it, well then they are aiming at the gun, and not you, so if you are holding the gun around a corner and are looking from above or below it, the shots aren't going to be coming at you. As well current weaponlights training teaches us to not continuously light up a suspect, it's flash them to stun them, identify them, and then engage as needed. Not to sit there with the light on. in a perfect world, after doing that you hit them with the laser, as you now have your target, and shoot if needed.
