My Dad has a Winchester model 70 Featherweight in .270win that has issues feeding the last cartridge out of the magazine (has a hinged floorplate). The rim end of the cartridge "kicks" out and therefore can't be fed into the chamber. I found that the magazine spring can be slid forward/backward where it attaches to the floorplate and one way seemed to 'fix' the problem. I am not satisfied with this 'fix' as I feel that this spring could move with normal use and then fail when you really need that last shot.

Any suggestions on how to fix?

there should be 2 little tabs that hold the magazine spring in place. if it is sliding then these are loose. Find the sweet spot where it works and peen or press the tabs into place to hold the mag spring. IF this does not work then shim the tabs to hold the spring.
