Yesterday was the last day of rifle season here. I got out at 1st light and watched over an empty cut block that I have seen lots of does in throughout the season. No deer were moving out in the open this morning so I circled out of the bushline. It had snowed a bit the night before so I went looking for tracks. I found some tracks heading down a game trail. They were small, and the wind was blowing the same direction as the tracks. I decided to slowly head up the game trail and hope a buck would be following the tracks looking for the doe. After about a kilometer of creeping through the bush I heard a brach snap. About 60 yards away I see a buck headed down the trail right towards me. He comes out from behind some trees at 30 yards, I'm braced against a sapling and squeeze the trigger. He runs down a steep hill and starts cart wheeling, only stopping when he hits a tree. I watch him through binoculars for a few minutes and decide it's safe to go sliding down the hill to get to him.
After a few pictures, I get him broken down and ready for the pack out. The 2-300 yards up the hill was leg burning, then a relatively flat packout back to the truck.

Awesome hunt! Congrats.
I was lucky and harvested my whitetail buck a few weeks ago.
But my daughter really wanted to fill her tag so we had been hunting pretty hard the last few days and came across a doe.
Long story short after hiking in a fair bit turned out to be three does and fawns. That was the end of legal hunting light for us and the end of the season.
I felt sorry for my daughter but felt pretty good when she said there is always next year.
Again congrats on a successful hunt.
Cheers
Jeff

got a spiker whitetail earlier in the month and tried hard the last few days of the season for another mulie here in 5-1. There are more deer on my 1 acre property than I am seeing in the usual spots. Found a wolf killed calf (cattle) in one of my favorite spots on the 29th .
Open in region 3 till the 10th so I'm going tuesday morning for a few days of cold weather hunting, roughing it solo for a last kick at the can.

Great story, mines boring, took it while sitting on the concrete foundation of a hydro pole at 11:30am 2nd last day of the season.
Winchester Trapper, 30-30 , iron sights,150gr Federal Power Shok at approx 70 yards.

Good year though, September put 425 pounds of Moose into the freezers of family and this should provide us with 135 pounds.

Took my step son out for one last attempt for his first deer yesterday. Its been cold and windy here resulting in a few long miserable days in the tree stand.

15 min prior to sunset on the last day here in Mb, big doe down, "bang flop" as they say.

Super happy kid even though he was a little miffed about spine shooting it and wasting some back strap. I told him " that's ok at least we didn't have to track it".

Congrats! My brother and I hunted hard this past whitetail season. With the massive dumps of snow we've had and the -25s. It sucked and it was probably my worst season to date in terms of deer numbers, whitetail and mule deer wise.

I caught a break on a big 4x4 half-way through our hunt and I managed to call in a 4x5 for him on the last hour of his last day before having to fly home the next day!
