Sounds like a .577 Snider-Enfield. 1860's vintage, single shot, cartridge rifle. A net search turns up 69,200 sites.

Bubba, a person who thinks he can "improve" a firearm by hacking bits off of it and drilling holes for scope mounts.
Best known for chopping barrels and forearms off Lee-Enfield and Ross rifles, but not limited to those makes.;)

Responsible for gnashing of teeth and frantic searching for replacement parts by people trying to undo his "improvements"

Often seen at gun shows trying to understand why his "sportyizing" a military rifle lowers its value.

I think this thread would get a lot more attention and replies in the Milsurp section.

A Bubba is someone who takes a milsurp and decides to as John stated "improve" it by hacking away and re-finishing.

I saw a hacked up Enfield No.I Mk.VI once... it made me want to throw up and cry blood.
