Any body out this week for the late seasons? We are hunting with Muzzle loaders this week. Damn cold sitting in minus 10 degree weather. I did a lot of walking yesterdy just trying to stay warm.:(
Chilly did bag a nice doe on the run with his Optima Pro .45 cal. I was very glad to cuz I had dogged it for over an hour. :)
I heard quite a few M/L blasts off in the distance, so there must be a few more hunters out now that they have opened this season to everyone.

Hey Bigredd, good luck for the remaining days!
I myself, am heading up to the Ottawa Valley to our deer camp for the M/L season, on Wednesday.:D
I have to admit though, I'm getting sceptical about our chances...Every major weather service is predicting a major cold wave moving in Wednesday night.:(
The area we hunt consists of farm-fields surrounded by a spruce bush on one side and a swamp on the other. The guys at camp have noticed increased activity (tracks and rubs) in the spruce bush.
My fear is that the cold weather will make sightings scarce. On the other hand, the deer have got to move to stay warm.
What's everyone's experience with regards to deer patterns, at the onset and the duration of a cold snap?

Yorgi, take to the swamp, in cold temps swamps hold some heat and are of course great at breaking the wind. They'll be hunkered down low in the thickest stuff they can find. If it's really windy they'll be skittish so watch for movement.

It's been around -25 here all week with the windchill. Our rifle season is still open and I still have THREE doe tags left. All we have seen is wolves and more wolves. I shot a buck on my buddy's tag last week while I was eating a sausage, standing at the noon day fire! The deer walked out broadside at 80 yards and didn't seem to mind us or the fire one bit. The old No 4 Mk2 dropped him. Supposed to warm up tomorrow so we will giver sh** again.

cheers Darryl

It was "brass monkey" cold out here this morning... got a nice six point... missed the big ten point... I will post some pics when I get some time.
The deer will move ahead of a storm front or a cold snap... hunt the food sources close to cover!

Good job REDD! I havent had a chance to get out yet, but Im going to try to get out for a day or two later this week.
Jobhunting is killing me...

No deer hunting for me, but we are whacking and stacking the longnecks!!!

We've been out around here and it has been COLD.

I missed a yote on Monday morning. The distance was a little far :)

I saw 7 does and fawns tonight and my brother passed on a 130 class 8 point at 30 yards. We're still trying to find the donkeys. They aren't cooperating well yet.

Haven't heard any shooting in our area at all.

Mmmmm...fawn..........:p

GJ, Bigredd!
I had to drive all the way up there to hunt with a rifle three weeks ago.
Nice place to be.
Down here , unless you like throwing arrows, the season ends before it really starts.

Shot a small fawn last nite... for roasts... they made me do it.
I have noticed that the adult deer are still acting rutty. I expected post-rut activity but the big buck we tried for yesterday morning was still defending his harem... we shot the small buck that was on the periphery.;)

Out with the shotguns this week Redd. ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. GF saw 2 does too far away to shoot at. The other 3 of us have seen nothing. Very surprising as we usually have something by now. Could be the cold snap. We are back to work until Friday, then go out Friday afternoon and all day Saturday. Supposed to warm up a wee bit by then anyways to who knows? They are not even moving at night.

We have 3 as of Tuesday pm.( all small, 2 fawns and a yearling doe) I got 2/3 both from treestands while all the other guys wandered around and kept the deer moving. Missed a huge buck hidding out in some tag alder red-branch stuff. Had to do some work this morning and will be out again this afternoon. Still got tags to fill!

I dogged a group of five around for an hour this evening and shot a huge doe just before Toomer could shoot it... he was razzing me about shooting a fawn last nite:mad: ... paybacks are a #####:p
Four during the late season so far and twenty for the year...
