Hello, I am going to be heading to the camp in a week and a half for some deer hunting but would like to know what the bear situation is like in Eastern Ontario, near Denbigh. I know the weather decides when they slow down but in Ottawa it has been so up and down in the past few weeks that it is hard to judge. We baited a few years for the 4 of us that had bear licenses and had a few around but did not get lucky. If there is anyone that has been in the bush recently in that area can you please fill me in on any signs of feeding and or movement. We have actually had a few bears walk up to stands in the past few years and want to know if it would be worth picking up a tag and getting the early guys who hunt with the bow before the week to bait or not. I know this is not the ideal setup but our gang is very limited as to the time we can set aside and only have the overlap for deer and bears.
Thanks a lot guys.

That is what I was leaning to, I would not shoot if I did not have a tag but would kick myself if I did not have a tag and a big bruin came by.

John Y, you hunt in Vennachar, we are just up the road, we have only seen a few bears in the past 5 years after moving the camp to our own property. I hope this area works out again this year, have a good hunt.
