My son's and my cow elk from Dec 27/2013. Five elk came out at 600 yards at last light .Shot with my buddies custom Rocky Mt rifle in .300 Ultra Mag Krieger barrel with a McMillan stock and Borden lefty action. Huskemaw scope.Let my son take the first poke as he had never shot an elk before and he hit his so I slid over and took the rifle as a cow and two calves trotted for the bush across the field at 500 yards not stopping so I swung a full elk lead on the cow and stroked the 1.5lb Jewel trigger.Face plant into a cloud of plowed snow.Like a bag of cement had been dropped on her.Gave the rifle back to my son and he took a second poke at his still standing disabled elk.A miss! Then on his third shot ,I advised him to hold a little higher and whack flattened her for good as well. About -35 with the wind in a meter of snow.Used 168 Bergers at 3400fps .Not my first choice in bullets but worked at long range with no exit hole just varmint like expansion.Elk were retrieved with a neighbor friends snow machine and calf sled.Happy Happy Happy...........Harold
