Late season goose in Southern Ontario?

We weren't as luck as the field that we have access to doesn't hold any birds and was not able to hunt this late season and looks like we are out of luck since its open till Saturday and time is running out.

I like your temporary camo idea as mine is in max5 and won't blend in to the surroundings.

My thought will be that bird is in the transition of new feathers maybe as I never seen goose with white patches on their wings others may chime in with more info.
 
thanks, you cant beat some good old white hockey tape for makeshift snow camo. I even got the kids involved by letting them draw the sticks on...lol
there is really no need for it though, my cousins shotgun is max 5 and he did just fine. the birds were so eager to decoy they were tring to land while the dog was retrieving

Sorry I didn't reply, I just spotted your post.

Congratulations on a good shoot. We've shot quite a few geese that have the patches of white. Shot some pretty funky honkers over the years.
 
My partner and I were lucky to limit-out on opening day. got a chance to go out by myself yesterday and they we're flying!
Road was totally snowed-in so I had to drag these suckers for over a mile.

That one honkers looks like his bill is frozen shut? We shot some a few years back that had frozen faces and were starving to death.
 
Nice yorgi, Looks like a good hunt! not sure about your birds yorgi but every bird im cleaning is lean and skinny with out any fat, this winter kicking their asses...
We got on them pretty good on wednesday also... and this time I remembered the bag of extra shells :dancingbanana:

Really? Ive seen it on google images alot, but my family has been running a goose control company for over 11 years and none of us have never seen it in person before... shot 2 this week on different days and in fields about 2 hours apart.

Thankfully not the case here, just some frozen snow that stuck to his beak.

Right back at you killswitch! Yes you are correct, almost no fat on them, maybe just a tad between the breast and wing bones. The batch we shot on the opener however had a variety of forage in their bellies, found lots of corn, soya beans and even grass if you can believe it...

Was also lucky to shoot a banded bird, already called it in and just like the one we shot last year it was banded six years before (as a gosling) less than 5K from where it was shot.
 
Last day tomorrow, get out there and shoot'em in the face.

We have been slow here, got out 2 days and me and my hunting comrade downed a total of 7 geese. On the bright side, thats the best 2 days we had all year LOL. We hope to get a few more tomorrow to end our first serious season at water fowl hunting. We have learned a LOT and next year will be much MUCH better.
 
Buddy and 10 of his friends shot 50 yesterday. Sent me the picture yesterday evening. Kind of jealous but I don't want to travel to Dunnville/beamsville aha

Well we didnt get squat today. We were set up in the direction of their flight path and 5 younger fellas where hunting a tree line a farm field ahead of us. Every time a flock was in sight, these guys (all 5 of them) would shoot at WAY HIGH birds and in every case 1 or 2 would fall from their very high distance. The rest of the birds would break up and head another direction. Sad that it took 5 guys to get 1 or 2 birds that where way to high on each pass over and screw other hunters that would never take these crazy high shots. Oh well, end of rant ;)

Around 7 months until we can start all over again, can't wait!!!
