I've been in several successful hunts this past fall and this was one I got towards the end of the season. Nice eight point buck. No doubt he had been defending his charms against all opponents and likely had passed on his genes to a new upcoming generation.

Sorry CGNers I'll attach the pic this evening as I need to figure out how to do the pic attachment...

To Superbrad. It's hard to part with a rifle that is no longer in production. ie Browning left hand 243WSSM.
To CROWCA - It's a bigger deer in body then it looks. Two Brow tines broken off, and one G-1 broken off. I couldn't see how it was a mere schoolboy. But maybe you deer breeding knowledge, far exceeds mine. Often times, there are younger and smaller bucks that breed when they can.
And thanks Jay and track.

Nice eater, gota ask though where in Southern Ont did you shoot that in Dec with a rifle? Just guessing as your location was the Bruce.

Nice deer. Kind of got me going cause out here when we say an eight pointer we mean on one side. I wounder why some areas do that? The deer i got we call a 5 pointer or 5x5 not a 10 pointer. Most yankees use the full point term as well.

Really? I can't find a rifle season in the regs, Bows and muzzle loaders only for the Dec 5-10. Help me out. I have that time of the year open and would be interested in a rifle hunt, the Bruce isn't to far of a drive for me.

That's because there isn't one - I'm confused as well and I grew up in Bruce County and still do the majority of my hunting there and now live in neighbouring Grey County. We have a December muzzleloader hunt but only one rifle season which is the first monday in November for a week's period. I'm sure the OP will clarify when the buck was shot but for now the post is somewhat confusing.

Now I'm REALLY confused. The caption on the top of the picture does state it's a December hunt - I also notice there is not a tag affixed to the antlers of the deer at
time of picture? Is this a reserve deer? That's the only way I can get this figured - no
tag, and no December rifle season anywhere near the Grey/Bruce area. Saugeen or Cape Croker native status perhaps ... help a guy out here?

So know that I know, how long is the native hunt? How many are you allowed to take, or does the limit apply to the whole Band? Where can you hunt?

Good stuff, did you stalk it or shoot from a blind?

Greetings WhelanLad I've never hunted from a blind. It's a nice option, and can understand why people do it. But I prefer to walk and stalk. For me I could go out everyday and enjoy the variables that ole mother nature creates. I like the internet too, because it allows for many of us to share our stories, experiences and views. I'm one of the community hunters that share the meat with those who can not get it for themselves. Like the elderly, handicapped, and single parents. This is how it has always been here, and I'm just maintaining the tradition that have been handed down. I'm not a trophy hunter but have downed a number of big bucks over the years. Good luck in your hunting pursuits.
