I went out last week and purchased a new rifle. I bought the Savage 93R .17 HMR in stainless/synthetic. It is bolt action and has the accutrigger which is nice and soft. On top I mounted a BSA Sweet 17, 3-12x40mm scope with some sort of BDC which i have not figured out how to use yet. If you have any suggestions of what ammo is good in this gun, or can give me a brief run down on how to use the scope, please let me know. Here are some pics.

I just bought the same gun. I topped mine with a 6-24x42 Tasco Varmint.

I picked up 3 boxes of Hornady 17gr VMax's to break in the barrel and hope to try out a few others later.

This gun should be a tack driving critter killer.
 
Nice. I have the 93R17 GLV. I wish the stainless versions came in lefty...I would have prefered that. Great shooting performance out of mine...seems to prefer the Hornady cartridges over the CCI TNT. The magazines leave something to be desired, but overall I enjoy shooting it. I have a Nikon Buckmasters 6-18x40SF on mine for optics.
 
i took it out today and put 10 rounds through it before it started dumping rain. bore-sighted it high and right and managed to tune it centered up and down. going to the range on tuesday to get it dialed in.
 
Thats a nice rifle, should perform to your satisfaction. I agree to lose those rings, and get some mediums.. it almost looks like you have a clearance of an inch!
 
Got the exact same rifle only mine has a blued barell. You really have to try out several types of ammo as every rifle is different. Mine for example seems to favour Federal and will shoot Hornady almost as well. I tried 2 boxes of CCI and they shot terrible. All were 17 grainers. The gun is a total blast to shoot and should do sub-MOA at 100 yards without much trouble on a windless day. One thing to do is to try and slide a $5 bill under the barell back to the part where it gets thicker, my barell was touching the stock at the forend and was causing my shots to string. The barell should be "free floating" as advertised. I liked the 93 so much that I bought the identical MKII .22 to shoot cheaper ammo at shorter ranges.

i did try this when i firsted pulled it apart to clean. there is a bit touching going on. should i sand down the stock? thanks
