Latest Batch of No 4's

Canadian Makred No1MkIII*'s, I would have bought one at market price.... Not to mention no4's..........

Enf-4_00.jpg

I can just picture the clerk telling every customer: "They're all the same, grab one." and every customer telling him: " Grab me that one, second to bottom row, sixth rifle over to the right."

Correct me if i am wrong, but all these rifles, in the photo, look to be Long Branch Mfg,..as they all seem to have that gray butt plate, that is common with the LB No.4 rifle...as Brit NO.4 's used a brass butt plate..not sure about Savage No.4's

I have just purchsed a lee enfield no4 with a gray butt plate. There are AQ markings on top of the 5 digit #10321(on the barrel, bolt handle and the wrist plate). Not sure what that is? I was told that these guns were made in UK. The wood markings all say
SL
N
74

Can you help me with the AQ, the A could also be an upside down V?

Those were the ones that weren't imported because too many people wanted them for $150 each??

IIRC they were rather overpriced for the market at the time.

Considering as well that they were bought from the Italian Government as scrap metal, not collector arms or such.

IMHO the Canadian Government should have stepped in and brought these home to sell in Canada...yah I know I'm dreaming.

I was wondering if there might be some deep dents in the forestocks, and buttstocks,..especially with the rifles on the bottom...thats a fair bit of weight in that bundle,.and look how they are strapped tightly with those metal straps, to keep the load from shifting...be interesting to know how long these N0.4's have been stacked like that..

I've seen a lot of rifles packed that way. The people that put them on the pallets are none to gentle either. It's surprising how little damage is done though.

250 rifles per pallet at .75/pound times 10 equals 2500 pounds x .75 for $1875 or $7.50/rifle. That probably doesn't include permits and handling, that's when it gets expensive.

If these are still around, I wonder how much it would cost to get a pallet into Canada? I would love to have a pallet knock on my door, or as a center piece in the living room. Talk about a conversation starter. I would guess $6000 with shipping?

That is a ALOT of Enfields .

Since these are premium priced rifles in Europe, the price is none too cheap. Also, many of the bolts were mismatched and the prospective importer was told they get no choice, take what you're given.

Price was high too, they would have been more than most would pay.

These pics are from several years ago, I can imagine they must be sold off by now.

They certainly weren't being offered at scrap prices, far from it.

Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't the fellow that first mentioned a group buy on those figure it out to over $400 apiece just to land them in Canada? I can't remember the quantities that were mentioned as a minimum and condition varied from as new to beater quality.
