Just got this back from a dealer in the US,I tried to order scope rings! Land of the free my ass!

Unfortunately, at this time we are not allowed to ship this product outside of the United States due to U.S. Federal regulations. All of the following items listed below are also subject to this restriction:

1. Night Vision Equipment and Night Vision Accessories such as: Monoculars, Binoculars, Goggles, Weapon Sights, Cameras, and Multipurpose Systems of Generation 2, 3, 4, or 5 2. Thermal Imaging Equipment, Heat Seekers and Weapon Mounted Accessories 3. Optical Sighting Equipment, Accessories, and Mounting Hardware of any kind, including: Riflescopes, Holographic Sights, Reflex Sights, Red Dot Sights, Laser Sights, and Bore Sights.
4. Tactical Flashlights and other sorted accessories for the above listed equipment.

Also, if an item is intended to be attached to or to be used with a weapon of any kind, we will not export and will not assist directly or indirectly with exporting it!

Also, please note that we will not sell any of the aforementioned items to domestic customers who intend to export these restricted items out of the country.

Tell me about it. I'm still pissed at the post confirming there will be no more new ACOGs coming in. As if we don't get screwed around about what we can and cannot own enough by our own government!

This sounds to me like the dealer's interpretation. Check to see if Brownell's has your scope rings- they still export to Canadians. Who was the dealer BTW?

Optics Planet,a wholesaler of pretty much anything optics related.Brownells didn't have what I wanted in stock.

It's a load of feel good b.s.

Just recently they stopped some US company selling spare parts for F14's to Iran (and where did those F14 come from?).

How many times do you see the guys in the mideast with M16's?

It's like the thing about not exporting scopes with Milldots, yet you can pick up a laser range finder anywhere.

On the few occasions I've crossed the border and I've had my tools in the back (they're always there for work), they grill me to make sure I'm not comming over to do any work, WTF you have thousand of Mexicans comming over everyday and you're worried about me? If I was a consultant I would be making way more than any tradesman and you wouldn't even know I had come over to work.

Seriously they are focused on everything BUT the real threats. It's a huge make work project for the gov., nothing else.

I was told that the scope restriction was at the request of the Canadian government (some lobby group). Apparently the importers were losing money due to cross border shopping for optics. The US will sell optics to an "importer" who will in turn rape you with a horrendous markup.

Its so damn ridiculous. I ordered 4 AK-47 mags (5 rounders) from a place in New Hampshire... got them 8 days later, no problem, but I can't buy a scope mount for my SKS as they aren't allowed to ship it to Canada. So comforting to have idiots making laws!

These are US regulations(new) due to a concern by US officials that these products could be used against the US by terrorists based in Canada! Part of this could be payback by the US for the horrible relations we had with them when the libs. were in power, or that they have legitimate concerns over who we let in!! Don't forget the terrorist that tried to cross into Wash. from Canada with a van full of explosives who wanted to blow up LAX. I know that Canada screens all immigrants/visitors very closely when they enter the country and they keep track of them while they are here, and the Canadian Justice system is brought to bear with it's full weight on anyone caught doing funny business! You have to look at both sides of this!

That doesn't hold any water. If a terrorist is in Canada, and has a need for an ACOG, or flash hider (yes, that is on the stupid list too), what's preventing him from buying them once he gets to the US? If he's after either of those items he probably doesn't have a truckload of explosives with him to be busted with at the border.
As to previous relations with the Libs, the Libs are not in power, relations have not been better in years, and this policy is in effect.
Okay, I'm done ranting (for now).

rings

Griff.- do you have a clue what it cost to get you %%%
set of rings up here- permits, gov't licences, city fees,
taxes ETC. Now wonder some dealer are saying to hell with
it with attatudes like that. P.S. profit on a set of millets is
about 2.50 to 3.00.
