Looking at getting a 280rem and have it narrowed down to a LAW Close or a Cooper Excalibur. The LAW Professional is an option too but not a big fan of muzzle brakes, removable or not.
Anyone have any real hands on opinions of these rifles? Not concerned about any price difference between the two, or three rifles I listed.
Opinions on fit, finish accuracy, weight etc would be great (cant find weight of the Cooper)... I do realize that handling the rifles to see what fit me better is ideal, but dont know of too many LAW's around yet...
Thanks :)

I handled a LAW Professional rifle not long ago, and was quite impressed. The fit and finish looked good, and other than the muzzle brake which I detest on any rifle, the only things that I wasn't fond of was that the fore end was a little narrow for my tastes, and the balance point was a little farther back than I prefer. The LAW was definitely lighter than the Excalibur. The Jackson Hunter actually fits me better than either of these two rifles.

I did Kevan! Thank you! Just kinda torn between the two and wanted to see what the majority vote I guess you could say is!!! Do you know if you can get Talley light weights for the LAW? What is the 704 action based on or is it its own??

I have yet to try for Talley mounts, the bases are Warne with larger screws... 8-40 I think so if Talley make a ring to fit Warne or Weaver then we'd be good to go that way.
The action was originally designed by Ed Brown a few years ago and he currently collaborates in the LAW rifle.
One interesting thing I have to mention is that I had a technical question regarding my rifle so I sent off an e-mail to LAW... and got a reply within the hour, I like that kind of service.
Now, I sent a question to Nosler twice over three days before getting a response.
I know that Nosler is a very busy company.... but still ?

I have no experience with the LAW, but I do have a Cooper Excalibur in 280 rem and absolutely love that gun. 140 gr tsx at 2975 fps into 3/4 Moa consistently. A heavier gun but handles beautifully and have no issues carrying it all day. Can't wait to take it to South Africa in the spring for plains game.

Any chance of a close up pic or two of the extractor/bolt lug relationship?

Cant find a listing for the LAW and talley light weight ring mounts.... Is that action based on another action?

The LAW action comes with Warne bases attached so to use a Talley ring you would require one which will mount on a Picatinny rail... if Talley makes such..

300 WM, Prophet River, 6 months they told me....we will see? These things usually take a little longer from my experience. I ordered in October, with any luck I'll have it in time to get a good load worked up over the summer and be good to go for moose in the fall.
