Looking for some help in understanding who would have posted the signs I found today. I have a suspicion of who it may be.

When to a spot I have hunted every year for the last 5 years and never seen any other hunters . As I walk in I see signs posted on trees everywhere
" Lawful Hunt in Progress no interference Please"
As there was not vehicle parked anywhere near I continued on in and found a huge permanent blind build. There was nobody around the blind or bait pile out front.

I understand that I do not own or get first dibs on "my spot" on crown land, its public land for everyone to use. If I go to any spot and see another hunter already there I will quietly back out and leave them to their hunt, I have also had other hunters do the same to me.

What I am looking to understand is who would have posted the sign, do they think "they" own the area, is it off limits to other hunters??????????????????

Has anyone every ran across something before????????????

Of the few times I have seen them, it has been guys from Southern Ontario trying to passive aggressively claim entire roads/etc of crown land up here for moose hunting. Feel free to completely ignore them if you are on crown land or private land you have permission on.

Well, not so many years ago I and a couple others had been known to place active logging/falling signs on spur roads.
Kept a few of the tourists out of the area.
As for the signage placed about and the construction of a blind on Crown Land , if it wad me first in I know what I would be doing.
These threads appear couple three times a season and if memory serves me correct this is the second thread on such a topic.

Id call the CO and report that someone was littering by posting signs all over crown land.

If my neck was a bit more red I'd just shoot the signs up with my 12ga and #8 shot.

Considering you said there was no sign of people actually being in the area, I would tend to agree with the above poster who said it's guys from out of town trying to claim the area. What are the rules about building permanent blinds on crown in Ontario? Would be awfully funny if they were in fact breaking the law with their "lawful hunt".

If this is crown land or a county/ public forest it’s of no consequence. Carry on with your day. If you have an issue with a guy politely advise that you’ll be contacting the local game warden and the local police and advising them someone is trying to post public land and prevent access. Someone will eventually come out. Carry on with your hunting and don’t be a ###### The only sign i recognize on public land is an opening morning duck hunt sign and crown posted signs with permitted activities. Guys trying to tie up an area of public land can go pound salt!

Call a Resource Officer...in BC (not sure about other provinces) you are not allowed to occupy a spot for more than 14 days at a time. I would think a stand in a tree would apply as well.

seen this before too but it was done by a local guide who owns a large acreage and lake that is surrounded by crown with many spurs he also tried to post his fake signs on.
Haven't seen the signs in a couple years but I know that every local around here knew the signs were BS

Bait for what animal? Not sure where it was but I remember bear bait sites have to be marked with who it belongs to in some places

Not allowed to build a permanent blind on crown land without a permit, which I'm sure they don't have. Call the game wardens.

This may be French Canadian hunter.I have seen this in the past. Ignore and carry on.

There are many hunters in southern Ontario who think they have exclusive permission . Most times it is only in there heads as others

have the same permissions.

Perhaps some one from Quebec could verify this.

In provinces that allow using bait to hunt, it is impossible to put it up and take it down daily, the whole point of baiting is to get the animals use to going to that location and it's features over a long period of time vs just when you are sitting there watching

In ontario your allowed to bait, but permanent blinds are not allowed. You can put up a temp blind but it is supposed to be removed at the end of the season. But I've come across many permanent blinds so that rule isn't enforced much.

Go hunt, if you get grief call the MNR he has no more rights to be there than you do. You can't harass him while hunting but he can't harass you either.

Pick your battles , walk away.

Not worth it, do something and there will be retaliation for sure.

And let this entitled POS get away with thinking he owns that crown land and has exclusive rights? I think not.

Contact the MNRF, carry on with your hunt, and/or remove this idiots signage so the next hunter isn't scared away. I know some guys who'd even go as far as destroying the blind and whatever gear he left on "his" land to teach him a lesson.

This guy is expecting people to be cowards, like you're suggesting, so he can have that crown land to himself. Not cool.

Do you know these people? Do you know what they are capable of?Do you know where they will stop after someone retaliates against them?

Go ahead, destroy their spot but expect a reply. They have as much right to be there as the next guy , the signs , maybe he has had to many encounters with people already stealing or destroying their setup themselves?

Even if it "looks" like a permanent setup as long as it is gone at the end of hunting season and if you are within 200 meters(not sure of the law there)of their spot hunting, you are in violation of a legal hunt.

Not being "cowardly" just stating that there are two sides to every situation and they should be considered.
