Hey CGNer's, I've been checking out this vid from Greater Napanee Gunworks:

Here's what I don't get - how is he cycling through both barrels so quickly? The XO12s I've seen come with superposed style safeties, e.g. you have to drop the tang mounted safety down, slide it to the left/right, and then push it up again to set either barrel back to fire-ready state (safety off). Have XO12 safeties changed in design?

Cheers.

All doubles work like that. Pull the trigger twice. You don’t need to set the safety to shoot either barrel between shots.

If he had two triggers, he could be even more “cool” and shoot both at once.

Stupid gun IMO and I fear it is just a matter of time that the government closes the “loophole” that allows short barrelled shotguns in Canada. Largely because of silly videos like this falling into the hands of anti gun groups.

I've owned the XO12 and just about every other shorty O/U out there, and none of them had the safety described in the OP. I had a Hatsan Optima that had an auto-safety, that automatically switched on upon closing the action though.

While all guns are ultimately on the grabbers' list, I hope these are low down on it. In my opinion, these are about as good as we can get with our laws for handy all around bush guns. Small, short, relatively light and pack a big enough punch that they will stop a bear. The short barrels mean a pretty wide spread with buckshot too, and depending on my situation I keep one chamber loaded with 00 and one with a slug. I also prefer a single trigger O/U vs. a pump, which means you can get that second shot off in a hurry without having to cycle the action if you are surprised/under stress and miss what you're aiming for the fist time around. Others will argue a tube or mag fed will give you more back up rounds, but chances are you won't get a chance for much more than two shots if you're dealing with a charging bear before it's on top of you, and if you miss the first time and he's already on top of you, the second shot can be fired one handed. No, they're not very practical for much else and there are better alternatives for hunting or dedicated bear protection, but they are better than your bare hands in the situation described above.

Ah yes I see.. the initial slide setting only determines which barrel fires first, but both barrels are indeed cocked and ready and the trigger can be pulled twice without a safety reset. I was not aware of that. That 12” triple threat on the EE is looking more like a proper toy to me now lol. Thx guys had a brain fart moment obviously.

Dilly I think the prevalence of shockwaves speak to how popular these things have become - but generally speaking they are coming after everything...

First of all, doesn't matter if you think it's stupid, it's not your gun. "Loophole", really? Don't make it sound like a mistake that needs correction to the detriment of law abiding gun owners. "Firing a gun in a video is silly". I could see if he was doing something dangerous or truly stupid, but, just firing a gun in the bush is not silly. Besides, like the guy said, truck gun/bush gun/have fun gun. Buddy, you are on the wrong forum.....

Yeah, I'd have to say, if anyone is on the wrong forum, it's you. This forum is for hunting and sporting shotguns and that gun doesn't really qualify. Granted, it could be used for those purposes but it won't be by most owners. It will be used exactly as the video demonstrated....firing at bush.

Having said that, I have experience with that gun. My nephew, who lives with me, bought one. He shoots it at bush. LOL

The Chiappa Triple Threat just has a safety, it doesn't dually act as a barrel selector FYI. The sequence of firing for the barrels is fixed. And yes, I have owned one of those as well and it is really, REALLY fun! But also expensive.
