I have a sported #4 that I want to install a one piece base on. Its already D+T'ed at the front (for PH two piece). I dont want to go the Weaver T-O1 route, as I find the 22 style mount to be a bit fragile - this is going to be my "bad bush dogging gun"
I've heard of people using bases for other rifles, and modifying to suit. The base would have to have a ~ 1 3/8 dia contour at the front, and be fairly thick to accomodate a flat being milled at the rear. I thought about a Savage 110 one piece, as it already has a flat at the rear, but I suspect it isnt thick enough.
Anybody been through this before? TIA

We have a Thor 1-piece base which is base and rings in one unit. The base is manufactured by Thor Engineering in South Africa.

Give us a call if you are interested.

Look at 303british.com there is a quick and dirty mount made out of angle iron and you can install a one piece base on it.

Did that and it works great. Only difference was I milled the angle iron nice and flat, mostly for looks. The old beater shoots about an inch.

Yeah I had problems with mine being on an angle and had to shim it to be able to hit paper. To do it again I would use aluminum angle which is not tapered like the steel and will avoid the need to mill it like you did.
