Le Baron Bankrupt ???

Hopefully it leads to one of the bigger independent gun stores to expand into GTA with a good and well established location as some of the employees were really nice and always friendly.

Bass Pro is in Vaughan and Niagra Falls, Cabela's is in Barrie, Sail is in Vaughan, Etobicoke and Oshawa. You'd think if they wanted to be closer to Toronto they'd already have opened up in Markham, Pickering, Ajax.

I wish something would open in Pickering/Ajax but seems like any available land out there isgoing to housing developments

OR you could drive 10-15 mins east and go to Sail or Ganon's..... I'm gonna guess here and say that no one will open up a tackle/gun/hunting shop in Ajax and Pickering just because those 2 stores are so close by. I guess it depends on how far you are from the 401

I'm in southern Scarborough, but work takes me to Pickering/Ajax sometimes.

Bass Pro and Sail in Vaughan are less than a 5 minute drive from each other.

As for going to Sail, I'll pass. They have a real attituted towords restricteds. They have stated publicly on the radio they don't want "those things" in their stores.

Nobody will miss them. Worst customer service, never anything in stock, arrogance, poor management, no website.
In other words, probably one of the worst retail experiences of my life and it fascinates me that they lasted this long.

Good riddance specially considering all the new shops that came out in the last couple of years.

Was there on Friday (Mississauga location). Some deals on 'some' clothes which were 50% off.

A lot of the other items are marked up the exact same as their 'discount' percentage. I had bought a few items from them months ago and their 'discount' was the exact amount the prices had risen. IE - Winchester small pistol primers were $52 and change with 10% off, returning them back to their previous regular price, which was nothing special.

Didn't really look at the firearms (was a big line up, and also not looking for any more right now).

There may be the odd deal here and there, but very unlikely as almost everything has been marked up.

Essentially not worth the time to go by.

YMMV

Le Baron's was the place to go in the 70s and 80s, needed a couple of lures or some ammo it was fine. If I recall correctly they did not sell clothes back then and did have handguns and they even had a catalogue!!! The store was busy back then and can't recall the service being bad.

The store expanded to clothes, got rid of handguns and as stated here many times the service was mostly terrible and wanted items were usually out of stock. I was there several months ago and left with nothing and there were no customers, an empty store. I thought to myself I think it is not going to last.

The owners have done well and will not be in any soup line for sure. So who will loose? It will be the employees until they find suitable employment and all of us in a way.

Went into the Ottawa store today at noon ready to spend a lot of money, joke was on me, the gunshop was closed for "lunch".
At least 90 o/o of the people walking out didn't buy anything.
We then went to the new Cabelas and had a great time, no fantastic deals and a lot of the products were overpriced but at least they were in stock.
My only negative experience was having my personal info recorded to buy black powder caps.

Obviously there were problems and issues. Things could have been done better, etc. However the staff were good people and the store was run in an honest, decent way. It is way to easy to fail in brick-and-mortar retail these days. I regret the demise of Lebarons. They will be missed.

hardly, arrogant and aloof servers, try asking a quick question so you can make a more educated purchase, and God forbid have an accent, their website was from Stone Age, not to mention again the constant lack of items in stock (I waited over a year !! for them to finally get .311 bullets)won't miss them at all

Service may not have been the greatest, but I always liked going to Lebaron's. Bought my first decent sleeping bag there, first tent, first firearm, etc etc.

They usually seemed busy enough- even if they didn't always have what I wanted in stock. And the service was also hit and miss.

And so I drifted away to Bass Pro, Cabela's, Sail, etc.

Finding out they're going out of business is like finding out an acquaintance from high school's passed away- even though you didn't keep in touch regularly, you're sad knowing that they're gone.

i loved Le Baron's because everyone else hated it so i could find what i want at a great price 9/10 times. That being said i got raped buying primers on their blowout sale. they jacked the price up to $51 for 1k of CCI primers.

...and with Bass Pro buying Cabelas... eventually we'll have only a couple of giant, expensive places to shop.

I'm going to continue to spend my money at WSS, CT and one other local shop.

Even if they are dicks, at least they are Canadian.

That sucks, I buy a lot of supplies there. Gun counter guys were absolutely ####ing useless, but the ammo/primer girls up front were great.
A lot of #### was always out of stock there, but they would have it at other locations....it was just a retarded hassle to get it shipped to the store, that never made any sense to me..."we have it at our Montreal store, but we aren't getting a shipment from them for another 2 months. You can pay up front for it and we will call you when it's in...." just stupid ####ty service.

The Mississauga store has been well picked over. I am waiting for larger discounts and will grab a pair of Danner boots for a good price. My wife is now stocking up on fishing lures as they are now 50% off.
