I gotten a call from an acquaintance who wanted me to help him out with a 'Mauser' he inherited. He went online and did a little research & he discovered it's a sportered LE. I knew that as soon as I saw it mind you.
So I got a load of hay hauled and we played with the gongs a tad (he has gongs out to 800 meters). At first he was hesitant to shoot it " It'll blow up!" Rusty old thing needed a squirt or two of oil to get the bolt moving.
Two position flip sight, grooved trigger, made in '42...sported lumber & an uncut 2 groove bbl. But no protective 'Wings' on the front sight, removed by Bubba.
I had a part box of Hornady and we burned through a few rounds.
He was amazed when I ran the 300 yard gong, at Dusk too.
I informed him that LE's were the ' Kings of the Battlefield' in their day, an AK-47 for the time. They are supposed to be able to shoot things at 300 yards.
Told him to buy a mag and a front sight protector and use it as a truck gun. Just don't alter it. It'll only go up in value.
And he has like 20 rifles, is a skilled reloader too. It'll blow up
