Hey all, I just bought a bunch of LE slings. The slings are OD webbing with Metal hooks (not the brass I am use to). Out of the 12 I bought about half look unissued (boy was that pie in the sky, the paint on the metal is worn on all of them..Doh). They don't have any makers marks or C-broad arrows that I can see. Well a couple have stamps, but they are hard to make out.
Not buying the story, but apparantly they came from Canadian War stores in Germany.

Any good websites dealing with LE slings?

Cheers

FN had buckles. Early ones were metal buckles, and then, in keeping with the 64 pattern of webbing, they went to plastic/nylon buckles.

There were Enfield slings in green. And the use of brass on the ends came and went with metal availability. Can you post a photo of one of your slings?

The green colored enfield slings...were they 1950's Korea era?
Or did they use the tan 1940's sling in Korea?
Cheers

While at Battle School in Wainwright 1977, we used the TAN coloured Enfield slings on our C1A1's. Then when we got to the battalion (Calgary), we were issued the current C1A1 OD coloured with steel buckles.

Mind you before Wainwright, I spent 2 years with the Westies and we used the correct C1A1 slings. It was kinda cute to go back and use the Enfield slings. They worked surprisingly well as long as you did not need to adjust them in a hurry.

Peace be to journey

Those are Enfield style slings alright. How long are they? Around 48 inches is Enfield, around 56 inches is Bren gun. (Top of my head on these figures, dont quote me).
I have seen these passed off as tropical slings, but to the best of my knowledge, there was nothing different about them other than the color. As I mentioned earlier, you could find ends made of either brass or steel. Someone on ebay has some of these green ones available now.

I had a quick conversatioin with a friend of mine who served in the Brit army, and he remembers using the Enfield style sling with the SLR's (FN's). As I said I wasn't about to buy the story, so they could be Brit FN slings.....Same length as my normal LE slings.

Cheers

... The Australian Army also used the 'Enfield type slings on their L1A1 ( FN - SLR ) from memory, they were either dark green as originally produced or older slings "painted" green ... in later years, black. .... David K.

Enfield Slings

Looking at your photo those appear to be L1A1 slings, if they are of nylon material these were the last slings issued for the UK L1A1 (FAL). UK issue. Cheers. g2.

The slings are so similar to LE slings that they may have been used as both LE and SLR slings. No property marks/Manufacturer marks (that I can read)

The material is the same as LE slings, the metal is not brass so it has thrown me for a loop.

Cheers
