LE6920 Socom + Slight Astigmatism = What optic

Hi Everyone,

About 5 months ago I purchased a Colt LE6920 Socom and have been using it with the iron sight to get used to them. I am getting better can usually get 20 rounds @10y within 1" and at 50y within 4-6". I know nothing amazing but with time it will get better.

Considering I found out I have a very slight astigmatism in my stronger eye after buying a primary arm and thinking it had an issue. I am thinking of buying a 1-4 AR scope but how would that compare to an Aimpoint pro or Eotech XPS2.

I would like something to co-wintess if possible and something on sale somewhere. If you have any recommendations or deals let me know.

eotech will not be an issue with astigmatism, aimpoint will be. I have an astigmatism and I have both aimpoints and eotechs.
I know this 100% no BS others will claim otherwise but they are wrong.
If you want a 1-4 scope get an elcan spectr dr, with your eyes youll be fine, red dot and illuminated crosshair also works with both eyes open.
 
I have a slight astigmatism myself, although my vision has deteriorated to 20/20.

I run aimpoints. Yes, the dots are slightly clustered; no, it doesn't affect my shooting. I figure the dots, pick a consistent spot for when I zero and I use that point on the dot for precision shooting. Works fine.

Although my astigmatism is very minor. Up until I was about 32 or 33 I had really excellent vision and I never would have guessed I had any issues if I hadn't bought an aimpoint.
 
Before my operation at Lazik for severe astigmatism, no scope FFP and holographic sight, i could use ( S&B's and Eotech spend many years in the safe), i could get by with a single dot or a scope with a simple reticle in the SFP ( sightron 10X50X60 LRTD)... After the operation, it was a rebirth on the optic side, what a pleasure to see clearly... JP.
 
A regular non-illuminated magnified scope will not give you any problems with astigmatism. As for illuminated optics, Eotechs to me were "sparkly" -- usable but not my first choice. Aimpoints are good but I need to keep the brightness low to keep the flaring minimized. ACOGs were fine for me, and Trijicon dot sights (both the RMR and their larger reflex sight) have nice round dots with no flaring. I'm currently using an Aimpoint Pro with a 2 MOA dot and an RMR with a 3.75MOA dot.

You cannot answer this question theoretically it has to be answered empirically. In other words, astigmatism is a broad term that means the major and minor axes of the eyes optics (cornea + lens) are different (not spherical) causing the eye to focus better in one meridian than the one 90 degrees to it. One person's astigmatism can be hugely different than another's, and so you get the varied and confusing answers here. i.e. What works for one guy won't work for the other guy.

Try to borrow one of each optic you're interested in and try it (the fancy name for this is "empirical testing"). It's the only way to be sure and it's what my optometrist advised when asked this same question.
