i have just bought a g17 i live in thailand now & the only ammo i can get at my range is lead
is this going to be a problem for the standard barrel? & if yes what do i need to do?
any other advise is welcome as i am new to shooting

i shoot lead out of mine, its just fine. shoot heavy bullets to keep velocity low and clean the barrel out regularly.

Your not suppose to. But I did in my G21 and never had an issue. Just keep it clean. Real clean. And in the future if you can get plated bullets that would be the way to go. For now, Shoot 50 rounds and clean your barrel. That would be a safe way to do it.

Lead hazzard.

The nice hammer forged, super hard Glock barrels are designed to shoot jacketed bullets only. The barrel actually swages or squeezes the bullet down to barrel size, so FMJ is the way to go.
Lead is not recommended because lead particles and strips will tear off the bullet and be deposited in the polygonal rifling.
The easiest way to shoot lead, lots of lead, is to switch out the truly nice factory barrel with a conventionally rifled barrel.
The very nice people at Lone Wolf Distributing make the best aftermarket barrels for all Glocks. Give them a try...

I would try to find bullets that are cast very hard. Monitor the barrel to get a feel for how fast it leads up. I have experienced very good accuracy from 147gr bullets in a 9mm. Regards, Richard:)
