What is the best bullet weight for 9mm. This will be for general target and potential IPSC use. I use 125 gr DRG hardcast, and I find this brand inconsistent in weight to about 5-8 gr. Our club does not allow any jacketed or plated bullets and we shoot indoors. Any suggestion and local source within the GTA? Primer is also a concern for me. Lately, I've been getting a no-fire situation with CCI primer. I would say, 1 for every 50 rds will not fire even with a good primer strike. Engage the hammer again, and it will fire. I will try to get Federal SPPs after I am done with 1000 rds of Winchester SPPs.

I get excellent results with the DRG 135gr in many different 9mm pistols. Federal is more sensitive, so may solve misfire issue. problem might be that you are over crimping the bullet and changing the case headspace.

I use the DRG 124's. Compared to Wolf I found them much nicer. The Wolf tended to have wax everywhere with the 9mm.

I don't have any issues like that with the Wolf 230 .45 Lead RN though.

the drg's get really smokey because of the lube, huge smoke clouds in the indoor range after you dumb a mag

what range doesnt allow plated or fmj.......? that seems silly

I use 147 grain Cactus Plains RN hard cast in my 9 mm... They are in Saskatchewan someplace... The advantage of using a heavier bullet is the less snappy recoil.. In my Tanfoglio Match this feels like a 22 LR load.. great for IPSC and IDPA.. fast follow up shots with little muzzle rise.. If you use a powder like V V N320 (3.1 grains, OAL 1.140) you get the best results..

Oh yeah like others have said.. use Federal primers.. they are much softer

Cheers..

Silly as you may call it but we have to comply with house rules. I saw a guy using a Wolff Reloaded ammo, and the empty case was really clean. Any Idea what powder WOLFF use?

the thing is hard cast lead bullets are much harder than soft fmj or plated lead. hence why this rule makes no sense what so ever.

fmj rifle bullets I can understand. handgun no....

I cast my own with a Lee 124 gr micro groove mold. It's very accurate in my SA 1911 9mm. Casts rocks when you find one that works and is accurate. I use it for bullseye target. IPSC volume of ammo with home casts is just unrealistic for me. I usually revert to plated casts from CAM PRO for IPSC quantity.
