Hey i recently looked into lead casting, and didnt seem to find much information on it.TWK I was looking to make my own buckshot (to reduce cost per shell) So i was just wondering if anyone on here knew anything about it?

Where to get lead?

try the 'cast boolits' forum. Everything you could ever want to know about casting. And some stuff you didn't even think of.
To get started, all you really need is a casting pot, ladle, mould, and some lead. I use wheelweights mostly, from the neighborhood garages. Roofers are a good source. Lots of lead around if you really look for it.:D

Budget shooter supply 'above' can get you the Lee mould. Makes 18 pellets per pour
 
I cast my own boolits and buckshot and you can too. Cast Boolits forum as mentioned is a great source of info. Many people use old wheel weights from shops, you need to learn about the different types and sort them. You can also buy "new" lead from metal suppliers but it is more money.

Most people using scrap lead like wheel weights melt it in a propane fired tank outside and make clean ingots then cast those ingots later in an electric lead pot in their boolit molds.

I myself use Lee melters like the 4-20 and some of their molds including the 18 cavity buckshot mold. FS Reloading in Wisconsin has some of the best Lee tool pricing. I do my scrap lead melting on a Bass Pro turkey fryer with an old BBQ tank cut in half as a lead pot.

I have moulds for all the calibers I shoot. Along with enough of the other components ensures that I will always have ammo. People say that you won't save money with this, you will shoot that much more, which is true. But I know I will always have ammo available.
 
I enjoy casting my own bullets, out in the back yard with the turkey fryer melting and cleaning my wheel weights. Got to see a buddy that has 3 - five gallon buckets of wheel weights and assorted lead flashing. I'll have enough melted and made into ingots for a couple years or longer. Just another enjoyable part of the shooting experience for me.
