Hi,
I'm fixing up an old cooey for a friend and its coming along good. It has a tubular magazine and the mechanism was bent and the bolt was basically seized in the reciever but with some elbow grease its like new and cycles perfectly now.
The only issue I have is that one of the grooves in the rifling has a section that is filled with lead!!! I've scrubbed it with hoppes and a brush, scrubbed with jb paste and patches, boresnake, I've even poared a punch of boiling water down the barrel and then scrubbed with jb paste or hoppes. Let the hoppes sit overnight in the barrel and scrubbed it again today. Some of the lead has been removed but there is still a noticeably amount in the groove.
I'm not overly concerned as the gun is funtional and shoots really well (I can't belive how well this little thing shoots!!) but I would like to have it perfect.
any help is appreciated.
thanks

For heavily leaded barrels I wrap the bore brush with a bunch of brass pot scrubber pad until the brush is snug fit it the bore and scrub away. Make sure you use a bore guide as this tends to put a fair bit of strain on the cleaning rod. I bet you can remove all of the offending lead in 20 or so passes.

As above...good advice. I also find that spraying "Fluid Film" in the bore seems to help this method (or with just a bronze brush). Seems to help loosen and carry the lead.
Its available at Can Tire, Wallies, or many auto parts places. And its a dandy rust preventative.

Stop up the muzzle with a rubber cork, fill the barrel with regular solvent and leave it sit for 24 hours. The solvent needs time to work. Then after disposing of the toxic solvent at a harazardous chemicals place(DO NOT DUMP IT DOWN ANY DRAIN), clean as per normal. Repeat the soaking if required.

thanks for all the advice guys, im going to try soaking it and then the scrubbing pad. I'm going into town friday and I'll try and find some klean bore.
