Anyone have any good results with hard cast 45 ACP lead loads for an outdoor level III match? Planning on using it on the Quebec provincials unless otherwise discouraged.

Basically it depends on how you'd like to do in the match. If you're there for fun, by all means shoot lead...otherwise, I'd practice with lead and load up some jacketed for the match. The smoke can be a real PITA under some light conditions, especially in a stock gun where it gets pushed forward and hangs there, barrels can be like shooting in a fog bank.

5.3 Gr Win 231 under 200 Gr LSWC makes major, is accurate and relatively soft shooting.
+1 - Nice load.

and +1 - Couldn't have said it better.

I tried it for a season in an effort to save some money, and even with an Open gun it was like shooting in thick, pea soup-like fog when shooting whenever the sun was in front or behind (morning or evening light). Not worth it for matches, but fine for practice.

Worse though was the ribbing I took for it, being labeled the "choo-choo train" every time I stepped up to the line to shoot. You don't want that; it scars you for life.....
