lead reloads in a XD

if yes how is it holding up ?

You can shoot lead out of an XD until you are blue in the face. I shot thousands of rounds of ti through mine.

Just get ready fro some scrubbing....

I've shot about 3000 rounds of 120-125 grn bullets of various profiles thru mine so far. No real leading issues, bore cleans very easily. Go for it, accuracy is great with them (unlike certian other black pistols unless you change their barrel)

Well I'm not sure yet which caliber to buy for competition. was thinking of 9mm just for the fact that brass is easy to find & factory ammo is cheap. but I have never reloaded round nose ammo just 38 cal. & 45 ACP. semi wadcutters.

Now .40 cal brass is getting easer to get now that police are shooting it. but there again it would be round nose or cone tip for reloads.

I like that the springfield XD is out with a 45 ACP but it is to new on the market & I would like to see how it really hold up over the next year & get real customer reviews on the gun instead of a magazine review.

any input here on my comments about these issues? might us it for PPC or IPSC

reloading round nose is really no diffrent than semiwadcutters or wadcutters i have a .40 and had very good luck getting free brass

That has nothing to do with lead, but your reloads.

You are either:

1) Using undersized projectiles
2) Not crimping enough

I make my own with a Lee tumble lube 6 cavity mold, water quenched wheel weights, and Alox lube. works very well over Tightgroup. 175gr Semi Truncated in 40cal.

Leading is not bad at all. I run a tight brass brush every 3 to 4 mags and that keeps everything happy. Very accurate and shoots POA. Duplicates jacketed ballistics.

If your lead bullets are tumbling, odds are you are using the wrong bullet or have massive leading. You need hard cast especially in the 9mm. The larger the bore, the softer the lead tolerated (rule of thumb) IF the bullet is a proper fit to the bore/throad.

Mine is stable out to at least 50 yards, haven't fired the pistol farther (yet, now I have a new experiment)

I never try pushing the lead over 1000fps so i basically get no leading. I'll swap the barrel and look when I get home, but ussually only brush it every 3-400 or so, and then just because I feel I should, not much visable leading, just a bit in the first inch or less.
