Lead shot through hardened steel chokes for steel shot - pattern any different ?

Might be a stupid question ...

After much choke research and having a pretty solid grip on the whole thing a possibly silly question came to mind.

Obviously it would be safe to shoot lead in the hardened steel chokes made for steel shot .... question is, does it affect the lead pattern any differently vs being shot through the typical 17-4 stainless chokes ?

Reason for the question is, if purchasing an entire flush set, why not get the few sizes for steel shot in place of the lead tubes to allow for more versatility ?

The biggest difference between chokes for steel and chokes for lead is the constriction, steel not requiring as much constriction to pattern correctly. The hardness of the steel chokes doesn't matter. You can shoot lead through anything.

Yes, discovered steel patterns about one choke restriction less in size and aware lead is gtg through anything.

Was just curious if for some reason lead patterned differently slamming into hardened steel choke vs stainless choke. Fingered probably not but someone who knows more than I might have noticed otherwise.

I've never noticed a difference. Both steels are harder than lead so any deformation should be identical. Steel rated tubes will pattern different than lead only when comparing the same term. Full steel and full lead may have different constriction. I've seen full chokes range from .705 thru to .690
