So, I just recently join a gun club and they only shoot 9mm lead tipped bullets. My concern is that I heard people say that its not good for the barrel and will wear quicker if you shoot non jacketed. Does anyone have any experience shooting it?

Lead will not wear the barrel, you will just have to clean a little more as lead will be left in rifling ,you will have to keep velocity under
1000 fps to avoid leading or else you can use gas checks on base of bullets

Perhaps it would be helpful to check the terminology used in the club regulations. "Lead tipped" actually means a jacketed bullet with some lead exposed at the tip. All - Lead bullets are something else. Unless you erroneously call cartridges bullets and bullets "tips' like some do. I suspect your club simply wants to avoid the use of full metal jacketed military ammunition that sometimes contains a steel core that will damage backstops.

That's exactly it, led tipped bullets can be of any construction as long as they have soft led in front in order to minimize backstop damage. For OP 9mm has many variety of bullets if you reloader, if you are not, then you are pretty much stuck with FMJ or TMJ from factory not that much of a choice.

I wonder if it is a poor terminology issue?

Maybe he means that the club requires ammunition loaded with lead bullets? i.e. No FMJ.

He may be using "bullet" when he means "cartridge".
