So I just dropped all my money on a mr1 and my optic budget is limited. i'm not a fan of ncstar i've tried a couple and while they weren't bad they weren't great either. Leapers seems to be in the same price range. Does anyone have any experience with them? Are they esssentially the same?

And before anyone says it. i know "you get what you pay for"

I had a Leapers on my 22-250, no issues. Switched it over to my M-14; I have several hundred rounds downrange and it's fine. I'd recommend Leapers with no hesitation. A couple friends of mine bought Leapers on my advice and they have no complaints either.

They are junk! Save your money until you have enough to buy a Tasco, which is far superior. ;)

They are junk! There may be the odd one that does well, but most are just plain junk.

They are junk!

well the plan is to get a nightforce for it eventially, however i don't have a few thousand dollars to spend on optics rigth now so i figured I'd get a cheapo that would work of for a little while

I really do understand that, ndb86, and not trying to make you feel bad, but you will be throwing your money away on the Leapers.

IMNSHO, you would be far better off buying a better used scope for now. There was a Bushnell 3200 10X on the Equipment Exchange a few days ago for less than $200. Or, you could look for a decent variable power hunting scope. There are lots of them for $300 or less.

Here's one for $125 with rings.

Something like that will work for now, and when it comes time to move up, you will get all your money back, to put towards the NF. :)

So you're saying that a scope that can take the recoil from the M-14 is junk? Really? I've heard of Bushnells being shaken to pieces on M-14s, but the Leapers is fine, but it's still junk, eh? Ooooookay.;) To each their own I guess.

I know of 5 that are currently being used with no issues. Just sayin':)
Have you used one or just read about them?

Absolute, complete and utter trash. I couldn't say it more harshly. I got one on a rifle traded to me, it was among the worst manufactured firearms items I've ever had the displeasure of owning. Do NOT buy one, it will be a 110% complete waste of your money and time. The glass quality is terrible, and the internal mechanics worse. One guy above seems to like them, he just hasn't done enough with them yet.

A guy I know had one on his rifle and when I looked through it I found it to be cloudy. I actually could see the target better without the optic. I think you can find something better on the EE.

i have 3 leapers on my guns with no complaints at all. the way i look at it if i fall and break my scope in the woods i am not going to cry as i only paid about 80.00 for them not like some other hunters who purchase scopes worth a lot more than the rifle they are on.

I know i'm getting crap, I was just wondering if it was usable crap. that would last me a year or less. something is better than nothing. I think i will get one. i found a 6-24x on ebay for 40 bucks. I'm not really gonna be out much and ya never know maybe somehow i get a super awesome one.

Yeah, they're junk. I'm a bit of a connoisseur of cheap optics, as I'm hard on equipment, and they win the prize of "Not Good Enough for Airsoft". Seriously. You can usually find a great deal on a Tasco 6x24 or 6x18 on the EE, rings in for under $100 (sometimes, well under a hundy). They seem to take the abuse quite well and I don't feel bad when I oopsysmashy them. I've bought 3 off of EE and 2 are still working awesome. The Third one died a death most unbecoming......But I'm pretty sure the circumstances would have killed even the toughest of Optics.

Interesting what is being said on Tasco scopes. I have one on my 10/22 and it has remained sharp and has taken allot of abuse. My Leapers scope mounted on my Savage bolt is starting to get cloudy. I guess it must be luck of the draw with Leapers.

I'm eyeing that 6x24 Mildot Tasco for 90$ at LeBaron as a replacement due to your thoughts.
