Now i realize anytime you do something really stupid the rule of thumb is to keep it to yourself.
But if you can save one other soul from enduring your suffering wouldn't you save them .
Well i decided i would do just that .
Now I'm no gunsmith or gun expert in fact I've only had my pal a year.
But i enjoy cleaning my firearms and i do it a lot .
I went to the EOHC Winter Shoot which was awesome but i digress.
So i was cleaning my SKS last night as i have probably 100 times.
So first relay goes great did far better than i thought at 100 yards as I've never had the chance to shoot over 50.
Second round at 200 yards after 3 rounds all i hear is click ,,,,,WHAT... that never happens with my SKS.
So i figure ok first bad round ever ftf not the end of the world wait clear charge another round click...WHAT..
Now this is just insane i remove the rear cover and boingggggg the recoil spring comes out all bent and mangled
:bangHead:f:P: i put it in backwards.....
So the moral of my tale of woe is yes you need to own more than one sks so your day at the range isn't cut short .
Oh and i suppose pay attention to what the hell your doing.
P.S anyone know where i can get a new recoil spring assembly
cheers

... That can happen in an sks? I've had my spring in the wrong way before and didn't realize until I cleaned it later... Just lucky I guess...

no i cleared the weapon and bolt was closed but the slide of bolt was notchy so off came the cover and boing
not much of a choice have to remove cover to get to it

Yes Comrade! Glorious Soviet Red Army would not field rifle that could be broken by putting recoil spring in backwards! SKS carbine is meant for maintenance by heroic illiterate peasant conscripts fresh off Red October Collective Farm with heroic Soviet cattle manure still on boots! Is not like decadent capitalist rifles which need cleaning! If want to break Soviet SKS rifle, need big Soviet hammer!

well the retainer clip popped off and that was it click click ,,removed cover boing in a big L shape but some vise grips and long nose and some elbow grease then the cleaning rod in the wide guide tube to hold the smaller extended and clip all better the soviet unions pride is back in action
thanks everyone for your suggestions i was really bummed

Glad you got it sorted.

As long as we're being honest :)....
The first time I stripped my SKS I had the bolt open, I think it was three days before I found the cover. It was in a pocket on my pool table. The first time I removed the bayo, it went flying 20 feet across the room, THUDD!!!, in the wall.

But I've never run the spring backwards. :p
