Well, I guess I didn't learn it well enough last year.
I was out combing the hills for ptarmigan with my brittany this morning when out of the fog came two black ducks about 15 yards above my head. I took the two upland loads out of the chambers of my Cynergy field and slid a kent waterfowl load into the bottom chamber - not having time to load 2 shells. I turned around 180 degrees as the birds flew over my head and saw them come into view from above my head exactly as I had practiced at our sporting clays course all summer. I mounted the gun with my cheek pressed tightly to the stock and pulled the trigger as the bird was at the perfect range of about 25 yards. *Click* Damn safety was on.
A few km's later the dog flushed a pair of ptarmigan and I managed to bag one with a pretty long shot. Saw one more that flushed out of gun range. So, it wasn't a total loss.
